JESSIE CHUNG IN ACTION!
Jessie Chung has finally stormed into the music scene with her Love Unity Concert on 17th October at Megastar Arena!
In just 3 and a half hours, Jessie left the audience mesmerized, performing 25 songs without a hint of slow-down through the entire night of captivating performances, fanning the heat of a huge crowd of fans.
Jessie Chung’s Love Unity Concert raised RM 130,000 for cancer patients and orphans and yielded huge responses from fans around the world, including the US, Taiwan, China, Australia, Korea, Indonesia, Myanmar and home-soil Malaysia, leaving barely any space in the more than 2000-capacity arena.
Due to the massive response, Jessie promised she would hold a second concert in December.
The opening showed a vivid video featuring the wardrobe of Jessie that brought the fan’s anticipation to boiling point. A gigantic star appeared at the end of the clip and Jessie walked out from it in a futuristic heroine battle-spacesuit. Under the deafening applause from fans, she opened the show with Forever.
With the accompaniment of Gig Dancers and Code Dancers, Jessie executed neat and step-perfect moves that stunned fans. Jessie satisfied the audience’s visual appetite by changing 9 uniquely designed costumes during the night.
The fans cheered enthusiastically from beginning to end, screaming repeatedly “Jessie, we love you!” The fans also brought a variety of DIY-LED boards that displayed messages such as “Jessie”, “JC”, “A Starry Sky”, “Tearless Sky” and “I Love You”.
Jessie showed her multi-linguistic talent as she sang in Chinese, Malay, English, Japanese and Cantonese. She was accompanied by a 7-person live band and 4 backup vocalists Lydia Zhou, Bo Hua Zhou, Haslan and Daniel.
All 25 songs were rearranged by renowned Malaysian music producer and director Helen Yap. Helen graduated from UC Berkeley with a bachelor in music and has been a major pillar in the music industry for the last 29 years.
Apart from singing songs from her own albums, Jessie also pulled off her own renditions of A Colorful UniverseRoar, Agent J; Chinese and Japanese classics Woman Flower by Anita Mui and Koibitoyo (My Dear Lover) by Mayumi Itsuwa. Jessie even boldly challenged herself with Dia by Fauziah Latiff.
The setlist ranged between fast and slow numbers.
Under the vast stretch of the starry night sky, Jessie played Kitaro’s Matsuri effortlessly with an organ. Also invited to perform on stage was John, a talented keyboardist from USA.
Malaysia’s famous singers Fauziah Latiff and Ziana Zain also performed as guest artistes. Fauziah Latiff sang her two classic hits and Ziana Zain gave a surprise rendition of Girl On Fire by Alicia Keys.
The audience almost heart-stopped when both vocal powerhouses sang powerfully. Jessie also brought up her Wushu team to perform jaw-dropping maneuvers wielding different weapons.
While singing the last song Tearless Sky, Jessie attempted to hold back her tears, but was unable to do so after recalling the memories of a 17-year-old teen who succumbed to cancer. The fans responded emphatically by shouting, “Jessie, we love you!” to comfort her.
After her last song, Jessie Chung's fans clamoured for more, shouting and chanting “Encore! Encore!” The whole arena erupted  into cheers when Jessie glided back on stage singing her encore songs, Loving You and A Starry Sky
The night successfully raised one hundred and thirty thousand Ringgit Malaysia for cancer patients and orphans. It will be donated to Dr. Jessie Chung Cancer Fund, MAKNA (National Cancer Council Malaysia), Rainbow Home Orphanage and Shelter Orphanage.
