About

Michael Mantz is a spiritualistic painter and a lawyer by profession. He was born on the 30th of August, 1953, in Hilversum, The Netherlands.

At 7 years old, Mantz got his first painting lessons from Albert Robbe, who got his inspirations from Salvador Dali, and continued his painting lessons with two other painters afterwards.

With his oil painting of a Dutch Windmill, Mantz- at the age of 14 years old- was already allowed to participate in an exhibition featuring all professional artists of the Erfgooiers Group in Hilversum.

As time went on and his life got busier, he had less time to create new pieces; however, his passion for the canvas arts remained. Mantz was honoured to meet Salvador Dali three times in his house in Port Lligat, Spain. During Dali’s first visit in 1973, he made a drawing with his signature special for Michael.

During that period, Mantz has become more focused on the music industry. He performed, specialising in gypsy music, with some of the best international musicians. In 2002, Mantz took up painting again, but after producing only two oil paintings he was not able to create the right circumstances to get the right inspiration. His profession as a criminal lawyer in The Hague, his music and his other activities distracted him from painting. According to Mantz, “Sometimes you need unexpected changes in life to get new opportunities in life to live the life you like to live”.

It was only in 2015 that he revisited his old passion once more, and he has since become much more satisfied with his recent paintings. While painting, Mantz got the feeling that he relives the roots of his spiritual life from his youth combined with his ever-growing life experiences. The overwhelming positive feedback from his many supporters encourages him to continue. Mantz knows he is “on the right track, and is excited and inspired to produce many more paintings in future”.

Inspiration From Salvador Dali

Michael visited Salvador Dali three times in his mansion at Port Lligat in Spain. During his first visit in 1973, Dali surprised Michael which he took over the " Dali's Biography Catalogue " and made special drawings and autograph for Michael. You can see from the photo that the snail on a leaf with the name of " DALI"
