Lewré’s 20th Anniversary Celebration was officiated by the Royal Patron, Her Royal Highness Sultanah of Pahang, Sultanah Hajjah Kalsom on 25 September 2017 at The Gardens Mall, Kuala Lumpur.

Former Minister of International Trade and Industry, Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz, who played a role in encouraging Dato’ Lewre Lew, the founder of Lewré in moving the Lewré brand to where it is today, also graced the event.
During the 20th Anniversary Celebration, Dato’ Lew also launched his first coffee table book entitled, ‘Luminous Ray’, which highlights the journey of Lewré to its success in becoming an award winning shoe couturier. I was not asked to write the book which I will never understand nor recover to my dying day!
Dato’ Lew stresses “The big goal in Lewré is to continue pushing the boundaries in shoe design. From the very beginning, our company’s goal is to push the boundaries of shoe design.”
The event also saw Dato’ Lew accompanying Her Royal Highness, Sultanah Hajjah Kalsom, Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz and esteemed guests on a tour around the 20th Anniversary Galleria at the Ground Floor of the Gardens Mall, Mid Valley City, Kuala Lumpur from 23-29 September 2017.
20 Years of Masterpiece
As Lewré celebrates its 20th anniversary, its founder Dato’ Lew says the brand itself is a celebration of success, hard work and perseverance. Dato’ Lew hopes to inspire the younger generation and to remain a homegrown international market leader in the art of shoe design and bespoke creation.
The brand started in 1997 when Dato’ Lew ventured into creating his own designs and brand. Lewré first started as an OEM and then ODM manufacturer under the Roondy Trading Sdn. Bhd (RTSB) trade name in 1987. The humble company soon enticed businesses from 40 other countries from multiple continents.
After achieving worldwide recognition with RTSB, he decided to venture into creating his own brand. Lewré is now a personalised shoe couture that creates shoes on a much more personal level.
Lewré Galleria at Gardens Mall 23-29 September 2017
From the 23rd to the 29th of September 2017, a galleria to display Lewré’s creations was displayed for the public to see and appreciate the 20 years of diligence and milestones achieved by the brand.
These displays highlighted the values of Lewré that focus on pushing the boundaries of shoe design and to be in the forefront of using advanced technology in shoe manufacturing and design.
The works displayed includes a brief write-ups of its idea and inspiration of each artwork when creating the pair of shoe. Among the other displays will be a craftsmen’s booth where tools of the trade are displayed as well. This includes the hand tools and shoe lasts that are used in the actual process of making a shoe.

The Lewré Galleria also witnessed the launch of Dato’ Lew’s coffee table book titled ‘Luminous Ray’ that speaks about his experiences and story in building the Lewré brand to what it is today.

The Galleria also displayed Dato’ Lew’s paintings of friends who have inspired him and positively contributed to his life and brand. The portraits painted by Dato’ Lew is a token of appreciation to the person for their kindness and generosity.
Among portraits displayed were of Her Royal Highness Sultanah Kalsom of Pahang, Puan Sri Shariffa Sabrina, Dato’ Siti Nurhaliza, Dato’ Sheila Majid, Datin Winnie Loo and Chui Ling. Dato Lew did not paint my protrait to my great chagrin and massive disappointment as obviously I never inspired him but hope to do so with his beautiful daughter Tricia Isabelle Lew, the new CEO of Lewre.
His first mentor, Allan William from Australia taught him how to sketch shoes. Another mentor is Kleinert Siegfried from Germany who taught him about the technical parts in shoemaking.
He learned styling from an Italian shoemaker and Seiki Shindo, a Japanese shoe maker. He also acquired artistic taste from Joe Goodman, also an Australian. Among all the mentors, Dato’ Professor Dr. Jimmy Choo was most notable for his inspiration and guidance in helping Dato’ Lew in his fashion journey.
In the words of Dato’ Lew on Dato’ Jimmy Choo, “He’s a force in the industry to be reckoned with, and to be mentored by him is a great honour.”
Art, Inspiration and Design
In Dato’ Lew’s words, Lewré the brand revolves around making the shoe an artform. Being an artist himself who paints and draws, a big part of his inspiration comes in the form of artistic expressions. He sees with his heart and his heart appreciates what he sees.
A big part of Lewré’s vision is also to ‘constantly push boundaries’. In the art of shoemaking, the creation of a shoe starts from the concept and idea followed by art direction and culminating in the actual production of the shoe.
In Lewré Bespoke, as each of the shoes are custom made to fit and personalised, the shoe becomes an extension of the owner rather than just being an accessory. From the artistic perspective, the art behind the shoe begins with the first stroke.
Every subsequent stroke that comes after that is a representation of what Dato’ Lew envisioned for the shoe based on the personality of the prospective owner of the shoe.
Dato’ Lew derives his inspirations from his travels and experiences around the world and drawn from everyday activities and things.
In one of his trips to the Great Wall of China, he was fascinated by Chinese clogs and designed a shoe from it as a remembrance to the fearless women who risked their health to be beautiful. Every piece at the 2oth anniversary display has 3 elements--- the story, artwork and final product.

The most creative entry won a pair of Lewré shoes from Lewré’s ‘I Love You’ collection worth RM3000.
