ANNOUNCEMENT
OF FIRST MODELLING SCHOOL OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED IN MALAYSIA BY SKILLS
DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT, MINISTRY OF HUMAN RESOURCES
Fashion and beauty training school Runway Productions by Catwalk Guru
(Runway Productions) officially announced its newly acquired status, effective
1st March 2019, of being the first - and at present, the only -
modelling school in Malaysia to be certified by the Skills Development
Department (JPK), Ministry of Human Resources (KSM), through the Institute of
Image & Cosmetology Industry (IICI), during a press conference held at 1
Utama Shopping Centre.
Representatives from each respective party - namely Tuan Yuslan bin
Yasok, from KSM; Dato’ Mike Loh, President of IICI; as well as Benjamin Toong,
Founder of Runway Productions - were present to commemorate this momentous
occasion, besides coming together to share awareness regarding the importance
of the government’s Technical and Vocational Training (TVET) initiatives.
In line with the standards and practices set across the image and cosmetology
industries, the IICI, in its capacity as the first government registered body
qualified in this field, has monitored and examined the education provided and
also training conducted at Runway Productions for several months.
This included submission of course syllabus and materials for verification, as well as inspection of its school facilities and teaching equipment for certification.

With this credit in hand, Runway Production now aims to train and
develop skilled models as well as qualified modelling instructors to meet the
market requirements of both our nation and also the world. In accentuation of
this endeavour, a standardised system of models’ pricing and market criteria
can also be practiced, along with creation of further business opportunities
for the industry.
As a result of this accreditation, two of Runway Productions’ personnel
are now certified trainers - Toong for the category of adult modelling, and
Swing Chan for the kids modelling branch, making them both qualified to provide
endorsed training in their respective areas of expertise.
“I have a great team which I’m very proud of, and we have worked very
hard these past 13 years, so it’s truly a great honour to have Runway
Productions by Catwalk Guru officially certified and be given this recognition.
We cannot thank the IICI and KSM enough for trusting us with this
responsibility and from here on, we can only work harder to bring our Malaysian
modelling industry to a higher level,” shared Toong.
Having gotten the ball to start rolling, Runway Productions also hopes
that this step can be a sign of encouragement to all the other fashion and
beauty institutions, be it small or big, in the country to get officially
certified by the JPK as well, for the betterment and future of the local
modelling industry.

becoming the foremost Catwalk Guru in Malaysia, Runway Productions specialises

Welcome to our press conference!

My name is Benjamin Toong, and as the
founder of Runway Productions by Catwalk Guru, I am very proud to announce that
we have become the first modelling school to be officially certified in
Malaysia by the Skills Development Department, of the Ministry of Human
Resources.

For this, I want to thank this two
gentlemen - Tuan Yuslan bin Yasok represented by Muhammad Amin bin Harun as well as Dato’ Mike Loh - very much for
giving us this recognition. And thanks for being with us here this afternoon as
well.
5) Runway
Productions turns 13 years old this year, and this is a huge and great honour
for us!
6) With
this certification, we can make sure that all our models and instructors are
properly trained and qualified professionals for the growth of our country’s
modelling industry.
7) We
hope that they can contribute to a better and stronger market that meets the
industry’s standards and practices and requirements, not only in Malaysia but
also internationally.
8) This
is only the beginning but hopefully many more fashion and beauty schools in
Malaysia will be encouraged to follow in our footsteps and get officially
certified by the Skills Development Department as well.
9) I’m
super excited for this new chapter of Runway Productions and this only means
that my team and I will have to just work harder to be a good example to the
modelling industry!
