HAIRY CRAB SEASON IS UPON US AND SHANGHAI MIN RESTAURANTS IN HONG KONG IS BEST PLACE ON EARTH TO ENJOY THIS MID AUTUMN DELICACY!

I KNOW MANY MALAYSIANS MAKE IT A POINT TO VISIT HONG KONG THIS TIME OF YEAR JUST TO EAT HAIRY CRABS! 

Of course you do get hairy crabs in Malaysia but they are hard to find and pricey. In Hong Kong they are a delicacy but not considered in the same league as shark's fin or abalone so you can eat hairy crabs in small mom and pop restaurants and cafes but since we are so highclass and trendy, why not enjoy hairy crabs in all their varieties in Shanghai Min restaurants which are only slightly more expensive than roadside stalls.

Shanghai master chefs presenting innovative hairy crab menus
from 1 October to mid-December 2013

Shanghai master chefs are presenting extensive and innovative hairy crab menus in Hong Kong at Shanghai Min’s stable of nine restaurants extending from the island to Kowloon and the New Territories.

Shanghai Min is paying tribute to the autumn delicacy by offering ten gastronomic dishes from 1 October to mid-December. With “The Culinary Art of Hairy Crab” as the theme this year, guests may enjoy a leisure time with their families and friends while savouring the premium hairy crabs with rich golden crab cream and distinctive freshness, best paired with good vintage wine. The dishes will be served at Shanghai Min in Central, Causeway Bay, Tsimshatsui, Mongkok, Kowloon Bay, Sha Tin, Kwai Fong and Tuen Mun.

In the season when the prized crustaceans are at their delectable peak, novel appetisers include Fresh Crabmeat & Fresh Hairy Crab Cream Soup (HK$58/person) and Steamed Shrimp, Fresh Hairy Crab Cream & Egg White Custard, served in two cups for sharing (HK$88).

Classic main courses include Taichi-styled Fresh Fairy Crab Cream with Clear Noodles & Egg White (HK$148), Wok-fried Broccoli & Fresh Hairy Crab Cream (HK$168) and fragrant Sergestid (Red Cherry) Shrimp & Fresh Hairy Crab Cream Fried Rice, Wrapped with Lotus Leaf (HK$208).

The most decadent dish of all is Wok-fried Shark’s Fin, Fresh Hairy Crab Cream & Scrambled Egg, with Crispy Rice (HK$688).

A seafood alternative is Wok-fried Shredded Mandarin Fish & Fresh Hairy Crab Cream (HK$298).

A unique savoury item is Fresh Hairy Crab Cream & Pork Soup Buns, with three priced at HK$88.

Irresistible desserts created to complement the delectable hairy crab specialties include Milk & Ginger Pudding With Dragon's Beard Candy (HK$48) and Black Glutinous Rice Dumplings & Osmanthus in Sweet Ginger Soup (HK$38/bowl).

During the promotion period, guests who order signature hairy crab menus can enjoy seasonal offers, priced at HK$350 (from two persons, each served with two Jiangsu hairy crabs), HK$340 (from two persons), HK$317 (from four persons), and HK$307 (from six persons) per person respectively. These limited addition menus all feature the steamed Jiangsu hairy crab along with a wide selection of signature dishes. Standard Chartered Credit Cardholders can enjoy up to 32% discount on each of the menus above and also a 15% discount on the designated hairy crab a la carte seasonal specialties.
