NEAR THE END OF THE TOUR ARE SOME OF MY FAVOURITES---CARS THAT CAN TRAVEL ON WATER AND THE SWAN CARS OWNED BY THE MAHARAJAH OF NABHA AND MADE IN THE 1920s IN INDIA.
The 2 Swan cars were of different sizes, one stretched like a limousine and the other a smaller, 'baby' cygnet car which replicates the bigger version but meant as a runabout on the palace parks of the Nabha maharajah.
When the Swan Car was first taken out for a spin, the locals screamed and fled, thinking magical swans had suddenly descended from the heavens as the swan is the vehicle of the great goddess Sarawati the goddess of learning, knowledge and art. The Maharajah of Nabha, resplendent in his jewelled robes, must have seemed like a Parama Hamsa, a saint who has transcended earthly desires. 'Hamsa' is swan in Hindu and the same term is used in Burma.
