I seem to have said everything that needed to be said in Part 1 so this post will be very pictorial. I am sure you prefer this to more raving and ranting which has appeared in Part 1. So here comes the matured beauties, looking ravishingly seductive and elegant in cheongsam. There is something magical about cheongsam as Chinese women are just made for cheongsam, the same way Japanese ladies are meant for kimono, Indians for sarees and western women in crinoline ballgowns that can sweep them down grand staircases in mansions!
I was stunned speechless by the beauty, intricacy, embroidery and obvious cost of each cheongsam! Most were lavishly embellished with sequins, paintings, beads, appliques and embroidery. I was just as shocked when the simplest cheongsam with polka dots won Best Cheongsam! Just shows you can never judge the judges! I thought this was fun and funky but not worthy of the prize as no effort was put in. I mean one can just buy a polka dotted fabric and make a cheongsam out of it at minimal cost and time. Perhaps the judges wanted something different and anyway there were 2 prizes. The other winner was #9 which was more cheongsamish but with unusual stand up collar.
I take my hat off to these 16 ladies, wives and mothers who were so sporting, gung ho and enthusiastic about life and all the pleasures it brings, however small and fleeting. Still, one glorious night and the memories last a lifetime and what tales to regale grand and great grandchildren in case one or two were already grandmas!
