NEWSMAKERS UNPLUGGED WAS INVITED FOR AN EXCLUSIVE VISIT TO MERCEDES-AMG FACTORY IN AFFALTERBACH NEAR STUTTGART, GERMANY WHICH IS A BIG DEAL AS NON-BUYERS ARE USUALLY NOT ALLOWED TO STEP INSIDE THIS MOST EXCLUSIVE AND HALLOWED GROUND WHERE THE BEST OF THE BEST MERCEDES BENZ CARS ARE MADE TO YOUR EXACT SPECIFICATIONS!
Like communism, not all Mercedes Benz are created equal. While 99% of us are happy to own a Mercedes-Benz, period, there are a handful who insist these superbly engineered cars can be, good heavens, improved!
And so these folks with bottomless pockets perambulate to AMG the 100% owned subsidiary of Daimler AG which owns Mercedes Benz and Maybach which has stopped production to the chagrin of my friend Princess r Becky Leogardo who wants to buy one. Now she is buying the gull winged SLS which will stop production in June 2014!
At AMG factory, you can customise your new car to your precise tastes. I ask if I could have a pink SLS with purple leathers and am told 3 such examples have already been made and delivered!
If you can think of something to add or subtract from your AMG, they will do so. After all, it's only euros.
AMG does not stand for Avant-garde Mercedes Germany as most people assume! AMG stands for Aufrecht, Melcher Grossaspach with the first 2 names referring to the passionate engineers who worked for Mercedes Benz but raced in their spare time in their souped-up, enhanced Mercs. Of course this could not last as these 2 men were made of blood and bones so they left to establish Aufrecht, Melcher Grossaspach which quickly became AMG as even the Germans preferred, let alone English speakers who passed out from this tongue twister.
In 1999 DaimlerChrysler acquired 51% in AMG and in 2005 Aufrecht sold his remaining shares to DaimlerChrysler and now Mercedes-AMG is a 100% subsidiary of Daimler AG.
I almost passed out at the sight of the SLS as it is my dream car! I love the gull winged doors that resemble a pair of bird's wings. At 160,000 euros (RM 688,000) for the cheapest model, it is not over the top though by the time most people are through with customising and bespoking their SLS, the final tally should be around RM 750,000.
Since the SLS will stop production around June 2014, now is the last chance to buy! Buy one now and don't even bother to collect! Let it sit and temporarily collect dust in AMG factory as the value soars and then sell it for RM 1.5 million!
