MALAYSIAN
TEXTILE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME LONDON
A Collaborative
Project
Between Dame
Zandra Rhodes DBE and Kraftangan Malaysia
Kraftangan Malaysia and the British
High Commission are pleased to announce a collaborative project between famous
British fashion icon, Dame Zandra Rhodes DBE, and Kraftangan Malaysia, aimed at
promoting and creating business opportunities for Malaysian textiles at an
international level.
By implementing this working
partnership, Kraftangan Malaysia hopes to revive and raise awareness of Malaysian textiles at
an international level, make it relevant to current developments in the fashion
world and establish its place in mainstream fashion.
As part of the Programme, Dame Zandra
Rhodes will be designing a clothing collection under her label, Zandra Rhodes,
using Malaysian textiles, supplied by Kraftangan Malaysia and produced by our
own local textile producers.
At the same time, Dame Zandra Rhodes will also be
conducting a Mentorship Programme for selected local Malaysian textile
producers, to learn and study the standards and prerequisite of textile production of an
international fashion industry.
The programme will culminate in a
showcase of Zandra Rhodes’s SS16 collection at London Fashion Week from 18 to
22 September 2015. The collection will feature vibrant and exclusive batik and songket, which will be transformed into Zandra Rhodes imaginative daywear and eveningwear.
This will be the first time ever that Malaysian
textiles will be featured at London Fashion Week on its official schedule,
alongside more established labels like Paul Smith, Vivien Westwood and Versus.
The
Zandra Rhodes Collection will also be presented at the Kuala Lumpur Fashion
Weekend 2015, an annual event organised by KL Alta Moda Sdn Bhd (wholly owned
by Tradisi Busana PR Sdn Bhd) from 8 – 15 November 2015 at the Malaysian
National Visual Art Gallery.
Present at the Press Conference were Her Excellency, Vicki Treadell, British High Commissioner to Malaysia and
Mr. Yusak Mahamud, Deputy Director General (Development) Malaysia Handicraft
Development Corporation (Kraftangan Malaysia).
The Zandra Rhodes and Kraftangan
Malaysia collaboration was an initiative by Mr Dodi Mohammad of Tradisi Busana
PR Sdn Bhd, who is also the architect and organiser of the Kuala Lumpur Fashion
Weekend events. Dodi is also organising the presentation and exhibition of the
Zandra Rhodes-Kraftangan Malaysia at London Fashion Week this September.
The
London Fashion Week Show Schedule is also available at www.londonfashionweek.co.uk.
