The food is utterly delicious as surprisingly good quality ingredients are used which I didn't expect since this is not a 5-star hotel. The imported salmon is same quality as those used in fancy restaurants at tripled the price and the vodka is Grey Goose which shocked me half to death and not some moonshine made in my backyard!
The name 'Meja' means 'table'in Malay. Explains Felix the cat Yang, "We wanted an easy to remember and pronounce name and you cannot go wrong with 'Meja'! After all food is always placed on a meja!"
Explains Felix Yang, director of Meja Kitchen and Bar, "Meja is our first and flagship restaurant so we are going all out to establish it before expanding the brand through franchising locally and abroad. So we need a short but memorable name that reflects Malaysian norms."
As it is, Meja serves Western and Asian cuisine but not fusion as this over-used, long-exhausted term connotes nasi lemak served with steak and sashimi! Luckily Meja serves proper western and Malaysian food with no pretensions! Just good, generous portions to satisfy hefty appetites, the way it should be!
Meja is pork-free but not halal as liquor is served. Says Felix Yang, "The meat is halal and even the chef is Muslim which is important as Muslims can eat here with confidence."
Meja will follow the footsteps of the hugely successful Movida chain of cafe restaurants which is lower-priced and caters to the masses while Meja is more fine dining at mass prices.
Grins Felix Yang in charge of franchising and director of Meja, "Before we start, my parents and parents of partner Roger Hew the MD of Meja must come to the premises to check. Only when we have our parental approval will we open! No cutting corners, no drugs, no vice, no gambling or any hanky-panky!"
Movida now has 9 outlets of which 3 are owned by Roger Hew and Felix Yang and their partners. The 10th Movida will open in Menjelara and 11th at Genting. My favorite is Movida at Centrestage PJ!

I TOLD THE OWNERS 'MEJA' SHOULD BE SPELLED CLEARLY SO EVERYONE CAN READ THE FONT AND NOT MISTAKE IT FOR SOMETHING ELSE SINCE 'MEJA' IS NOT A TYPICAL NAME. FOR INSTANCE, 99.999% WILL AUTOMATICALLY ASSUME 'RESTARANT' MEANS 'RESTAURANT' BUT WHO WILL GUESS THE NAME OF THIS GREAT EATERY IS 'MEJA' WHICH IS AN UNIQUE NAME FOR A RESTAURANT
