LIKE ALL FAIRS, BANGKOK GEM & JEWELRY FAIR 2017 HAD BOOTHS THAT PRACTICALLY BEGGED YOU TO TAKE PHOTOS OF THEIR JEWELS AND THOSE WHO PATHETICALLY TRIED TO BLOCK ME FROM PHOTOGRAPHING THEIR BOOTH (NOT EVEN JEWELS AS I WAS STANDING 20 METRES AWAY) BY STANDING IN FRONT OF MY CAMERA!
TWO STAFF CAME TO ME TO DEMAND I STOP TAKING PHOTO OF THEIR BOOTH UNTIL I SAID I WAS TAKING PHOTOS OF THE HALL AND THEIR PAVILION WAS BLOCKING MY VIEW AND THEY SHOULD DISMANTLE IT. THEN THEY SAID I COULD PHOTOGRAPH THEIR STAND BUT NOT THEIR JEWELS UNTIL I TOLD THEM THEIR ENTIRE COLLECTION IS ON THEIR WEBSITE WHICH ANYONE CAN COPY AT LEISURE!

One minion said I could not photograph their specially built, grand pavilion. I replied "I am taking photos of the entire hall but your booth is blocking and spoiling my view so can you please dismantle your pavilion so I can take my photo without your stand spoiling my picture?"
He then hastily said I could take the exterior but not close-ups of their jewels. I said "If i wish to copy your design, I don't need to take photos as one look at your design I can remember every detail since I am a professional jeweller. If I take photos to copy, I have to find a jeweller to make exact clone and pay for semi precious gems etc which would not be cheap. Also making a one-off piece is time consuming and may not be worth the jeweller's time and effort unless I pay through the nose which defeats the whole purpose. Then again, the result may not be what I expect so it is unlikely any visitor would do this! It is one thing to show a photo of a lovely necklace to a jeweller---it is another to ask him to make exact replica!
Or I could simply walked inside the booth and asked for a catalogue featuring their entire collection! Or visit their website and steal their designs at leisure! From professionally taken, beautiful photos in glorious color with every detail clearly defined!
Every jeweller worth his name has a website proudly showing past and present collections for anyone to copy if so desired.
So if I were confident of the quality and workmanship of my jewels, I would be shouting to every passer-by to please photograph my jewels. After all, imitation is the highest form of flattery!

BGJF is considered a potentially
efficient marketing tool in helping Thailand to sustainably drive forward its
gems and jewellery industry towards the international competition.

Producers, exporters, importers,
designers, and relevant stakeholders to the gems and jewellery industry from
17 major countries. Among them are from 730 business entities in 2,011
exhibition booths (625 business entities in 1,865 booths from Thailand and
105 business entities in 146 booths from other countries, e.g. Hong Kong SAR (37
booths), Singapore (12 booths), Turkey (10 booths), Poland (10 booths), Japan
(9 booths), and so on.
In comparison with BGJF58, the total
number of participating business entities decreased by 7.71% or 61 entities,
and the total number of exhibiting booths also decreased by 4.56% or 96
exhibiting booths.

BGJF59 expects a total of 20,000
visitors from 130 countries around the world to visit the fair. In its
previous edition (BGJF58), among the total number of 16,562 visitors, 10,119
were from Thailand, and 6,443 from abroad.

Jewelry Brands booths exhibit gems and jewelry items from Thai producers
within Fashion Product Development Project. They had been given assistance
with the help of foreign experts in product development, product display, and

The expected purchase order for BGJF59
is worth 1.7 billion baht. In BGJF58, the purchase orders recorded was worth
1.669581 billion baht. Immediate purchase order accounted to 2.42485 billion
baht. Purchase orders within one-year accounted to 1.427086 billion baht.
Products of interest included diamond
(49.3%), coloured gems (24.24%), silver (17.16%), gold (5.54%), pearl
(2.11%), machinery and parts (0.78%).
Countries with the highest spending in
the fair were the United Kingdom (37%), Sri Lanka (18%), India (8%), the
United States (7%), Thailand (5), the rest were the United Arab Emirates,
Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, China, and Japan (2% each).
