IN THIS LIFE, I ONLY LIKE 3 CARS---FERRARI, ROLLS-ROYCE AND MERCEDES-BENZ, IN THAT ORDER. HOWEVER, ONLY MERCEDES-BENZ HAS EVER INVITED ME TO THEIR EVENTS SO I SHOULD CHANGE MY PRIORITY!
IT HAS BEEN 125 GREAT YEARS SINCE MERCEDES-BENZ ASTOUNDED THE WORLD WITH THEIR SUPERLATIVE CARS AND FOR AS LONG AS ANYONE CAN REMEMBER, A MERCEDES-BENZ IS THE LUXURY CAR THAT IS REASONABLY ATTAINABLE WHICH EXPLAINS WHY IT IS SO FAMOUS AND POPULAR.
A Ferrari and Rolls-Royce are meant and priced for the seriously rich as you cannot buy a new Ferrari or Rolls-Royce for a few hundred thousand ringgit as they are all in the multi-million ringgit bracket. But if you work hard and save enough, a spanking new Mercedes-Benz can be yours for a few hundred thousand ringgit plus all the prestige and glamour that come attached to the circle with the 3 spokes.
Of course if you are really loaded, there is the Maybach, the rich cousin of Mercedes-Benz which many see as the ultimate luxury car, in the same league as the Bugatti limousine which is even rarer and pricier.
The 125th birthday bash was held at Hilton KL Ballroom to a full house attended by all the movers and shakers of KL who by a happy coincidence seemed to own a Mercedes-Benz as proof of having made it!
It was a conspicuous celebration of car, culture, couture, cigar, cigarette, chocolate, caviar, champagne, cognac and cool chicks washed down with Chandon (as in Moet & Chandon) with plenty of cash floating around!

MERCEDES-BENZ JOINS HANDS WITH STYLO FOR
“WORLD FASHION SERIES” AND HOSTS 125TH ANNIVERSARY GALA
It was a night to write home about when luxury automaker Mercedes-Benz hosted a glittering Finale of its Customer Dining Event for 2011 in celebration of 125 years in automotive excellence and innovation. It also announced its international collaboration with STYLO International as Presenter of its “World Fashion Series”.
STYLO, launched in Kuala Lumpur by SPB Raja Permaisuri Agung Tuanku Nur Zahirah and Datuk Jimmy Choo to celebrate the 10th Malaysian Petronas Formula 1 Grand Prix in 2008 has been presented by Mercedes-Benz since inception.
Dato Nancy Yeoh, president, founder and owner of STYLO formed STYLO Worldwide UK Ltd following the introduction of its ‘World Fashion Series” this year and moved its international base from Singapore to London. It has since created STYLOLYMPICS, its fashion platform for the upcoming 2012 London Olympics whose debut enjoyed much success during the recent London Fashion Week season in September.
STYLO joined forces with Mercedes-Benz India in Mumbai to present its second instalment of the series when India hosted its first-ever Formula 1 race last October.
In both cities, STYLO presented its recycling tribute ‘The 7 Deadly Sins: Recycling is the new Black” which was introduced at the KL STYLO FGP in 2010.
Under the World Fashion Series, STYLO will create a platform for young Malaysian fashion talents to be showcased in international fashion capitals. A young, 20 -year old fashion student Lorenzo Peh, winner of Mercedes-Benz STYLO Emerging Designer of 2011 was the main highlight of the London and Mumbai shows.
“As Presenter of the initiative, Mercedes-Benz will assist STYLO to further its effort in moving the Malaysian fashion industry to far-flung international markets with the support of the Mercedes-Benz network. It will endeavour to discover and push emerging new Malaysian and Asian talents”, says Roland Folger, President & CEO of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia.
Also included in the initiative will be the search for new faces via the Mercedes-Benz STYLO Model of the Year programme which will kick off in January and terminate on the finale evening of the upcoming STYLO Fashion Grand Prix scheduled for March 2012.
The competition open to both male and female Malaysians will see the winners taking to the international runways where STYLO will be hosted. ‘We are honoured and at the same time deeply humbled by Mercedes-Benz’s support and belief. We look forward to this global journey with them for the benefit of our Malaysian fashion industry”, said Datuk Nancy Yeoh, President & CEO of STYLO International. The winners will also be named the Face of Mercedes-Benz for that year.
STYLO which is also the organiser of the Ford Models Supermodel of the World Search will continue to organise the Ford Models search which is scheduled for the last quarter of 2012.
This is the second partnership arrangement signed on by STYLO’s World Fashion Series which was introduced in London in September this year. Local carrier AirAsia X sealed the deal as its global airline partner the same month.
In January 2012 STYLO will become an official Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival. It will join the ranks of its other high-powered international fashion week contemporaries of the world under the Mercedes-Benz banner.
