Cangkat Bukit Bintang is KL's Eat Street as it is lined with restaurants on both sides. But at the top of the hillock where the upscale condos are located is Nerovivo which is aptly located as it is king of the hill and is easily the best fine dining restaurant in the vicinity.
Nerovivo is based inside a big bungalow with own garden and you might walk past, assuming it is a posh home. But the signs are there so it is easy to find once your peepers are peeled for the occasion.
Opened since 2004, Nerovivo is known as one of KL's best Italian restaurants. Its current owner is Ceylon-born Abenathan Kanthasamy but Nerovivo was founded 12 years ago by famed restauranteur Paolo Guiati and Chef Ranauro Massimiliano.
Presiding Chef Joao Melo is considered very young as he is all of 31 and started in earnest just 6 years ago when he was asked to help cook in a friend's kitchen in Lisbon as a chef was taken ill. Previously he was a good house cook and an excellent photographer.
But after dishing out excellent food that fateful night and receiving compliments, he realised this was his forte.
Though not Italian, Chef Joao Melo specialises in Mediterranean cuisine as Portugal is that part of the world.
The stylishly refurbished bungalow is the perfect palette for this Portuguese as not only is it photogenic (his camera is never far away from his clutches) but offers a stunning vista of KL Tower.
The al fresco dining pavilion is ideal for after work pasta, nibbles and wine!
Expect to pay RM 218 nett for a superb 5 course meal with wine or RM 118 nett without.
