Malaysia
Largest Optical Chain Store, FOCUS POINT and its charity arm, FOCUS POINT
CARING HEARTS CHARITY FOUNDATION, to
coincide with this year's theme by the World Health Organization: “Give the
gift of life: donate blood” organized its annual Blood Donation Drive in support of Malaysia’s National Blood Bank
on 10 November 2013. The drive took place in The Curve Shopping Mall and was
equipped with all of the technical equipment and requirements to render the
process a success. A total of 200 donors,
both new and repeat donors, donated blood and 172 pints of blood were collected
during the drive.
Speaking
at the occasion, President and CEO of Focus Point, Dato’ Liaw Choon Liang said:
“It is part of our social responsibility to look into the needs of the society.
I am happy to see the public response towards the call, and it is to our greatest
proud to work closely with Blood Bank Malaysia to achieve the success of this
noble and humanitarian initiative. We thank The Curve Shopping Mall as well for
their generous support, and what better gift to give humanity than the gift of
life. Together,
we can save lives… all in a day’s work.
Focus
Point is always looking at opportunities to participate in various humanitarian
initiatives that are designed to serve the society and contribute in spreading
awareness about the aspects of health.
“Giving blood has health benefits as each time
you donate blood, you remove some of the iron it contains. High iron levels can
increase the risk of heart disease. In any case, as long as you are healthy,
your body replaces lost plasma in 24 hours and red blood cells in about 36 days
so there are no real repercussions to your health,” said Cik Fariza who led the
team from the National Blood Bank.
Focus
Point’s blood donation campaign attracted 200 potential blood donors.
Participants queued to register, had their blood type, blood pressure and
medical history recorded, iron levels checked and personal details logged in
the National Blood Bank’s database before proceeding to give blood at a
specially marked area.
