Winnie Sin's Golden Gala at Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur

Before I go any further, photos speak a thousand words and no photos speak more brilliantly than those featuring beautiful stars decked in Rafflesia's brilliant bling!

Here is proof positive as I show you the human dazzlers in Winnie Sin's dazzlers!

The theme for Rafflesia's pre-Anugerah party was 'Gold' but it might as well have been 'Black', 'Boring' or 'Come As You Are' as not all subscribed to the colour code. I as usual was the only one who adhered to instructions and spent time, effort and much money to come entirely clad in gold; gold shirt, gold pants, gold shoes, even gold bag! I wore gold underwear too but you have to take my word for it as I could not prove it since this was a highclass event.

I could have sworn Winnie Sin wore bronze instead of gold but she assured me her theme code of GOLD was not written in stone so as long as you had something goldish, you qualified. Look at Dato Jimmy Choo in his customary black suit and he wore a mustard shirt as did Winnie Sin's husband Sin Cheang Loong who also wore the same coloured shirt by Lord's Tailor. Winnie's glam dress is by Elie Tahari. So many local designers insisted on doing her dress and she could not accept one without mortally offending the rest so she was forced to go for a foreign designer to avoid the sniping of scissors! I advised her to change her baju in the course of the night, going to the toilet or some function room to change every 15 minutes! But you know la, not all fashionistas are as hard working and dedicated as me! As it was, those who wore black matched the black tablecloth so perfectly all I could see were their faces bobbing up and down!

This Golden Gala was in honour of the stars who were nominated for the 24th Anugerah Bintang Popular to be held on 3 April at Arena of Stars in Genting Highlands and this was a pre-Anugerah party. "The stars are not only worth their weight in gold but also have hearts of gold as they are always ready to help my fund-raising efforts so I chose gold as the colour theme," explained Winnie Sin who looked and was always mistaken for a Hong Kong movie star herself!

Winnie Sin is using her fabulous jewellery brand Rafflesia to sponsor a whopping RM 650,000 worth of jewels for the winners of the 13 categories in the forthcoming Anugerah Bintang Popular at Genting Highlans on 3 April. Each winner from the 13 categories also get a pearl necklace worth RM 5,000. For occasions of this nature, naturally there must be a Best Dressed winner who will also get a RM 5,000 pearl necklace from Winnie Sin. And ditto for the Most Popular Designer who need not be the one who crafted the gown for Best Dressed winner.

All eyes will be on the winner of the most coveted title Bintang Paling Popular who will get an astonishing RM 180,000 worth of Rafflesia pearls and diamonds. The winner is gender-free but a male winner can presumably give the bling to his mother, wife, lover, mistress or, like me, wear the jewels himself. Winnie Sin can revamp the jewels to make them more manly and swop the earrings for something more suitable. I dont know what the top gems look like but Winnie is always so accomodating. A secret of her success as Malaysia's top jade and pearl dealer!

As usual, Winnie Sin managed the near impossible by getting not one star but six to sing on stage while her 180 guests tucked into crab tartar, braised tenderloin with prawn percik sauce and banana brownies. The six singers were Diana Danielle, Ir Radzi, Deja Moss and Maulana while duet couple Hazig and Kilafairy sang a hit Hindi number!

It would have cost a bomb just to get one singer to perform but to cajole six was an amazing feat but trust Winnie Sin to exceed expectations!

Finally came the lucky draws of 10 scrumptious boxes of Rafflesia chocolates, each the size of a side table (Honest Injun, is true!) and retails at RM 1,500. A pricey treat but once you eat these magnificent morsels, nothing else compares. I have gone through 3 boxes and speak from experience and authority so I know what I am talking about. So I sent petitions to Buddha and Jesus in high heaven to grant me a box and get Dato Jimmy Choo and Dato Meor Kamarul Shahid of Berita Harian to pick my card. Alas, my prayers fell on deaf ears and no chocolates were forthcoming. So I consoled myself the gods would let me win one of 2 pearl necklaces worth RM 5,000 each. Again, my name was not mentioned and I pray this would not start a pattern!
