RESORTS WORLD GENTING FORGES INTO A NEW ERA OF TRANSFORMATION GLOBALLY RENOWNED BRAND AMBASSADOR AND HORIZON 50 AMONG LATEST ATTRACTIONS
The Genting Integrated Tourism Plan (GITP) is well under way with several projects expected to be completed within the next two years.
Launched in December 2013, Genting Malaysia Berhad’s GITP involves a RM5 billion investment to develop and enhance the infrastructures, products and services at Resorts World Genting, will see the completion of a new hotel, new cable car station and the much anticipated Twentieth Century Fox World Theme Park within the next two years.
These were some of the latest developments on the GITP shared by Genting Malaysia Berhad’s President and Chief Operating Officer Dato’ Sri Lee Choong Yan.
Resorts World Genting also introduced its new brand ambassador, Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh, who is poised to enhance the brand globally as the Resort enters into a new era of transformation.
In a brief overview of the GITP, Dato’ Sri Lee said this 10-year project is aimed at increasing the brand’s global competitiveness and enhancing its position as a major tourism hub regionally and globally.
He added the GITP is expected to boost the country’s economy through the tourism industry by attracting higher tourist arrivals as well as creating thousands of job opportunities. With the offerings under the GITP which are of world-class standard, the Resort is targeting 30 million visitors by 2020.
The GITP projects will be carried out in two phases. Dato’ Sri Lee said they are currently working on the first phase. “One of the projects in the first half of 2015 is an additional 1,286 rooms at First World Hotel.
"Other projects expected to open in the near future include The Sky Avenue and Sky Plaza shopping mall, new cable car station and the world’s first Twentieth Century Fox World Theme Park, scheduled for 2016.”
He said the refurbishing and upgrading of the Resorts’ hotel properties will be concurrently taking place within the next two to three years.
On the selection and appointment of Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh as the brand ambassador, Dato’ Sri Lee said they wanted a world-class icon to represent the transformations. At the same time it has to be an individual whose personal and professional life exemplifies the Resorts World Genting brand.
“In this aspect we found Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh is the ideal choice. As a Malaysian she has successfully penetrated the international movie scene and is today an internationally acclaimed actress and producer. In many ways, her courage, resilience and strength in remaining at the top of her industry mirrors our business.” said Dato’ Sri Lee.
Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh has taken time off from her busy film shooting schedule to attend this event. On her collaboration with the Resort, the modest but dynamic lady said, “Resorts World Genting is already a big name and I hope my association with the international entertainment industry will be a contributing factor in elevating the brand further”.
The Hollywood actress and producer who is looking forward to the opening of the Twentieth Century Fox World Theme Park, has acted in two Twentieth Century Fox sci-fi thrillers, ‘Sunshine’ and ‘Babylon A.D.’.
Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh joined Dato’ Sri Lee to launch the Sky Avenue logo. This new mall is set to become the latest lifestyle mall at the Resort offering retail, food and beverage outlets and entertainment space that include cinemas.
“Our goal is to develop a mall with a distinctive and energetic retail environment that creates a great sense of excitement and differentiated experience among local and foreign tourists alike,” said Dato’ Sri Lee.
With an array of local and international semi-luxurious and affordable brands, the mall promises a vibrant and chic shopping experience.
Its location is designed to provide seamless connection to all other facilities such as the hotels, Arena of Stars and new Twentieth Century Fox World Theme Park.
Visitors will also be spoilt for choice with local and international cuisines and dining indoors or outdoors where open decks form a perfect platform for al fresco dining overlooking the theme park.
The Resort’s second cable car system station with a capacity to carry 4000 passengers per hour will also be located at the Sky Avenue. The mall will be the hub where visitors convene, shop and enjoy the overall atmosphere of Resorts World Genting.
Another project under the GITP, Horizon 50 was also launched. The venue with a size of 16,000 square feet offers a journey through time showcasing the birth and growth of Resorts World Genting.
"As Resorts World Genting enters its 50th year next year, Horizon 50 looks at the last 50 years of Genting’s history and attempts to portray a vision for the next 50 years. It’s a truly fascinating journey.
"All these are presented through a combination of projection, background music and special effects, with a fly- through video and visual boards adding to the sensorial experience,” explained Dato’ Sri Lee.
The idea of Horizon 50 was conceptualised in line with the GITP where the Resort wanted to have a one-stop venue to share its history, amazing scale of current operations and construction of the many new projects with its visitors.
The informative venue offers an ambience of futuristic atmosphere complemented by state of-the-art technology portraying the group’s global expansion.
With an investment of nearly RM4 million, Horizon 50 partnered Panasonic which sponsored and powered the high definition projectors, fly through videos, visual boards, video walls and LED Television screens.
The Resort envisages Horizon 50 will attract five million visitors in the next two years. Entrance is free and the venue is opened daily from 10 am to 8 pm.
