SPIRIT OF
THE QIPAO REKINDLED
For centuries and considered
the epitome of Chinese high fashion and culture, the Qipao, also widely known
as Cheongsam, a one-piece Chinese dress, has now graced Couture Fashion Week
New York, 2018. The collection was presented by one of Malaysia’s top home-grown fashion
house The MOD House. MOD stands for Malaysian Original Design.
The MOD House was started by KL Ho who embarked on his pursuit
for high fashion in 2006. Now 12 successful years later, Ho is ready to make
his debut in Couture Fashion Week with his Qipao creations.
KL Ho has introduced new
and original cuts to three fashion concepts for the Qipiao to give it a
freshness and elegance that will surely captivate ladies of fine taste.
Concept 1
Traditional Qipao and
Chinese wedding gown, the Kua, incorporating elements from the merging of
Chinese and Malaysian cultures through the usage of the beautiful Songket
fabric (Songket is a fabric that belongs to the brocade family of textiles of
the Malay world, and is hand-woven silk or cotton, with intricately patterns of
gold or silver threads) and design motifs from heritage of Baba and Nyonya
ancestry, the fusion and assimilation of the earliest Chinese immigrants with
local Malay culture.
Concept 2
A marriage of East and
West - the Qipao with traditional Chinese Mandarin collar and infused with a
touch of Western evening gown elegance of ruffles, peek cuts and colors.
Concept 3
Fit for royalty across the
world -the Qipao fashioned as a regal gown with exquisite cut and detailing
perfect for the most exclusive of high society invitations.
This collection was shown at The MOD House’s fashion show on September 9th
at Couture Fashion Week New York, 2018.

embarked on the pursuit of his passion in 2006 when he established The MOD
House. Now 12 successful years later, Ho is living proof that passion and
