LAST NIGHT, 26 AUGUST, TAN SRI DATUK SERI PROFESSOR DR LIM KOK WING THE FOUNDER AND HEAD HONCHO OF LIMKOKWING UNIVERSITY HOSTED A BUKA PUASA DINNER FOR MEMBERS OF THE MEDIA AND FRIENDS.
IT WAS HELD AT HILTON KUALA LUMPUR IN THE BALLROOM AS THEY BELIEVE IN DOING THINGS IN STYLE. I WOULDN'T HAVE MINDED A MAMAK STALL AS SOME DO SERVE FAB FOOD AND I AM ALWAYS PARTIAL TO FREE FOOD. THEN AGAIN, MY TAXI FARE TO AND FRO WAS RM 40! BUT FOR SURE I ATE AT LEAST RM 200 WORTH OF 5-STAR FOOD SO I ENJOYED A RM 160 NET PROFIT.
IT WAS THE KIND OF PARTY EVERYONE LOVED AS EVERYONE GOT A HUGE HAMPER THE SIZE OF A TENT! I MEAN, NOT EVERYONE SINCE THERE WERE AROUND 200 OR MORE IF YOU COUNTED THE CHOIR MEMBERS WHO SANG RAYA SONGS AND LOCAL HITS.BUT A HAMPER WAS GIVEN TO A REPRESENTATIVE FROM EACH MEDIA GROUP OR PUBLICATION.

Final shot!
THE MOOD WAS RELAXED AND ULTRA-EASY. NO FANCY THEMES OR DRESS CODE. NO BAJU MELAYU COSTUMES. NO INVITES TO BRING. NO FUSS AND NO VIPS THAT WOULD AUTOMATICALLY FORCE MEDIA HACKS TO START TAKING PHOTOS AND BEGIN AN IMPROMPTU PRESS CONFERENCE.
THE KING, QUEEN, PRIME MINISTER AND FIRST LADY WERE NOT THERE.
I BELIEVE I WAS THE SOLE CELEBRITY (SNIGGER, SNIGGER) BUT NO ONE CAME TO ASK FOR MY AUTOGRAPH THOUGH SOME TOOK THEIR PICTURES WITH ME SO THAT QUALIFIED ME AS A STAR OF SORTS
There was no protocol and being easy-weesy was the order of the night. There was a massive traffic jam as usual and emcee Datuk Fajura Juffa announced Buka Puasa would proceed once the iman of Limkokwing recited the doa over the microphone at the stroke of azan prayers.
I wonder why I was not put at the main table but at Table 2 as the head table was half empty since Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing had his staff seated with him instead of fellow Tan Sris, ministers, tycoons and pillars of society.
But my table was also interesting and suitably glamorous. I mean, I was there so that was one goal inside the net. There was top male model Wilson Tan who looked spiffy and handsome as usual. I noticed very sadly Tiffanee gave him a hug but merely shook hands with me.
There were two good-lookers from Limkokwing University. Dishy dreamboat Dennis Coenraad who is from Netherlands but since he looked faintly exotic I queried if he had any chinky blood and true enough, his mother is Thai. Even more exotic with such flawless complexion and skin I wanted to scratch her was Diana Zhantassova. With a name like that, she had to be from Kazakhstan. She too looked Chinese but then I think the Kazakhs are of Chinese descent since they are all so good looking. They are probably Hokkien too as obviously I am Hokkien but I digress.
There was Ace Tang and her friend Veronica and Chin from Sabah. The rep from Limkokwing was Senior Vice-President of Corporate Development Dato' Gail Phung which I thought was Phang as I never heard of a Phung or Phing or Phong but she assured me Phung was the correct spelling and she would ask her husband later if the birth cert clerk made a typo error.
Many Limkokwing students attended as members of the choir which consisted of several dozens. We were treated to a great 'Thank You' feast. The service was smooth and everyone had a jolly time feasting.
Entertainment was provided by the talented staff of Limkokwinwg University which is famous for producing stars of celluloid, screen and stage. Past alumni include Dafi the top singer, Stacy Anam the winner of Akademi Fantasia Season 6 and Miss Malaysia Universe 2009 Nadine Ann Thomas as Limkokwing University also attracts good lookers.
Speaking of which, the official hostess was Tiffanee Marie Lim the gorgeous daughter of Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing and Associate Vice-President of Creativity and Innovation who went from table to table to greet her guests. I must say she seems lovelier each time I feast my peepers on her which is so unfair as she already has fame, fortune and most important, youth, on her side.
After the choral and solo singing, Dato' Fajura invited Tiffanee Lim, Dato' Gail Phang, I mean Phung and the beauteous Diana Zhantassova from my table onstage to present hampers to each media group or publication.
I checked my hair and matted the oil oozing from my complexion so as to look good on stage. I almost passed out when Dato' Fajura announced, "We have come to the end of this event and we hope you had a good time." Can you imagine they refused to give me a hamper? I had to battle rain, snow, sleet, hail stones and high water to reach Hilton KL on time and I was unworthy of a hamper. Where could I hide my face? Oh the humiliation of it all as everyone sneered, sniggered and made snide remarks and pointed laughing fingers at me. I was about to hide under my table when Dato Gail ran to Tiffanee Lim who came rushing to apologise! Well well well, an oversight! My name was on the list after all!
Gasped Tiffanee, "To make up for this, can we give you 2 hampers?" I asked for 10 but in the end took her offer. So this ended very profitably for me after all. I must remember to ask Dato Fajura to skip my name again next year.
The finale was a group photo ONLY for members of the media. By the time the shutters clicked, practically everyone was on stage.
And so ended another memorable Limkokwing event.
SELAMAT BUKA PUASA AND SELAMAT HARI RAYA!
