His Majesty King Mohammad VI was born on 21 August 1963 but the KL celebration was held on 30 July 2011. Apart from King of Morocco, his titles also include Amir Al-Mukminin or Defender of the Faith just as Queen Elizabeth II is Fidei Defensor or Defender of the Faith in Latin except hers is Christianity while his is Islam.
The King was made Heir Apparent and Crown Prince the instant he was born and received a traditional education in the palace. In 1993 he received his Doctorate in Law with First Class distinction from the University of Sophia Antipolis in Nice, France. In 2000 His Majesty received an honorary degree from George Washington University for promoting democracy in Morocco.
In 2000 he married Salma Bennani, now Princess Lalla Salma and have 2 children, Crown Prince Moulay Hassan and Princess Khadija. His wife is referred to as Princess Consort or HRH Princess Lalla Salma and not Queen Salma. He ascended the throne on 23 July 1999 upon the death of his father King Hassan II.
The Moroccan royal family is one of the world's richest with an estimated fortune of US$ 2 billion, much of it from their holdings in ONA Group, according to Forbes.
The Moroccan ambassador Mr Ahmed Amaziane was accompanied by his wife Malika and son Mehdi Amaziane. Around 350 guests came to wish and congratulate him on the special occasion. Delicious Moroccan delights included chicken and beef tajine, pastilla and of course cous-cous. Desserts were kharka (sesame and honey), hancha (almonds and peanuts), Kaab ghazal (almond puffs) amd kekkas (almonds and sesame). All very authentic as they were not made by Royale Chulan but by Malika Amaziane the ambassador's wife in their residence!
