Of course some camped overnight but this is not Samsung or Apple so by the time I staggered in sleepily, there were maybe a hundred diehard fans queuing in line.
Around 7.30 a H&M staff came and tagged a wristband on everyone's hand. The first 30 were wrist tagged with red bands which meant they were the first (curses) to be let in, followed by another 30 with green wrist band and mine was blue. That made me the third batch.
Each batch was alloted 15 minutes so the first were allowed to shop only from 8.05 to 8.20 am while the second group were allowed in from 8.25 to 8,40 am and I was shooed in from 8.45 am to 9 am but mind you, I was only allowed in around 9.05 am instead of 8.45 am.
But 15 minutes were enough as the selection was quite small and located right at the entrance. We were given 15 minutes to choose and then allowed to take our baju into the changing room to see if Alexander Wang's creations fitted my body.
As there were not 100 fitting rooms, most guys tripped and tried on the garments there and then by the clothes racks since there was no such thing as false modesty among men.
Jack Lew who came in same time slot as me was practically weeping and lamenting his fate as he failed to get what he wanted and he had planned to buy 10 items fro under RM 2,000!
"I did not manage to get 1 single item on myb wish list! So I grabbed the next best!" he sighed pitifully as my heart wept for him. He showed me a towel and napkin. Plus a pair of shorts from RM 199. Even the towel/napkin set he grabbed from the shelf had the accompanying mesh bag missing! Luckily he asked a sales staff and she managed to retrieve the bag from God knows where.
Jack Lew waiting anxiously by the changing rooms hoping to snap up something, anything, anyone rejected. Even this was not always possible as sales staff usually insisted on taking the rejected items back to the racks and we had to go back to the Alexander Wang section. Of course by then your time slot was over as the staff cut off my blue wrist band when it was time for the yellow bands to enter!
My favorites were the full leather jacket for RM 1,299 which is almost cheap and considered very reasonable as a similar one at Alexander Wang's boutique in New York will easily cost RM 5,000!
Another item I adored was a full, knee length anorak that looked so couture it would easily cost RM 5,000 too but this was even cheaper at a mere RM 799 which was shockingly low!
There was 1 left when I returned after nasi lemak and tea tarik breakfast at Old Town White Coffee but of course by the time you read this, I bet my bottom ringgit it is gone.
