MALAY FRIENDS IN KOTA BARU, MY BELOVED HOMETOWN IN KELANTAN, ARRANGED SUPPER TO CELEBRATE CHIINESE NEW YEAR AT AT ARIA AUTOMOBILE SHOWROOM IN BUNUT PAYONG

KEE@FSWMAG.COM

IN KELANTAN THE MALAYS AND NON-MALAYS LIVE HARMONIOUSLY AS PROVEN BY THE MAY 13 1969 INCIDENT WHEN NOTHING, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, HAPPENED IN KELANTAN!

The Malay Muslims and non-Malays are linked by a common language called 'logak kelate' which is Malay but unique to Kelantan as non-Kelantanese can understand what we are talking about! This unusual and unique dialect is exclusive to the point of almost being a foreign language. For instance, guess what 'mok teh' is? It's 'rambutan'! Or 'makeh' which is 'makan'! 'Pity' is actually 'duit' and we still use 'shilling' which was the British currency of yesteryear which refer to loose coins or just money!

We have to somewhat concentrate when speaking Bahasa Malaysia and automatically revert to logak kelate among ourselves to the annoyance of outsiders, I mean non-Kelantanese. I always speak Kelantanese to a fellow ogeh kelate in the presence of non-Kelantanese when I don't want them to understand my comments and observations!

From the Kelantan Royal Family to poorest farmer, every Kelantanese speaks logak kelate and the Chinese and Indians speak it fluently without missing a beat. So we Kelantanese are unique and very cliquish! If you meet a fellow Kelantanese overseas, there is an immediate bond as we can lapse into Kelantanese instantly and bound to discover common friends.

On 29 January 2017 the second day of Chinese New Year of Fire Cock, Yasmin (a guy, not gal) organised a get together in the compound of Ria Automobile at Bunut Paying in Kota Baru. The list of attendees were;
Mohd Saadon, Dato Carleel Supt W Joe, Razmi, Haji Dea, Shem, Pak Ngoh Din, Rashid, Nik Amir, A Rahman Mat, Abdullah Hassan, Burhanordin, azhar Salleh, Wan Addenan, Haji Lofti, Ariff Normin, Mohd Rosli Ghani, Pok Min and Pringadi.

It's indeed a pity I can't join the get-together. I would have but I was on my way home from Saudi Arabia.
The pictures posted really make old memories during our school days to come rushing back.
There are many more Chinese mates like Peter and Lee Eng Soon (many I can't recall their names) whom should be roped in in the coming reunion.
