'CREATIVITY IN MOTION' IS THE CRUCIBLE OF INNOVATION IN LIMKOKWING UNIVERSITY OF CREATIVE TECHNOLOGY'S ETHOS!
THE LATEST 'CREATIVITY IN MOTION' FASHION EXTRAVAGANZA WAS HELD ON 2 JULY AT BANGSAR SHOPPING VILLAGE AT 7.30PM AND DEMONSTRATED AGAIN WHY LIMKOKWING UNIVERSITY OF CREATIVE TECHNOLOGY IS THE PRE-EMINENT HOTBED AND PETRI DISH OF UNBRIDLED INNOVATION.
LIMKOKWING UNIVERSITY OF CREATIVE TECHNOLOGY IS INTERNATIONALLY ACCLAIMED FOR ITS PEOPLE-ORIENTED AND IDEA-CENTRIC PRINCIPLES FROM DAY ONE AS FOUNDER PROFESSOR EMERITUS TAN SRI DATO DR LIM KOK WING USED TO RUN THE PHENOMENALLY SUCCESSFUL WINGS CREATIVE ADVERTISING AGENCY BEFORE DECIDING TO SHARE HIS COMMUNICATIVE SKILLS WITH YOUNG PEOPLE FROM ACROSS THE GLOBE.
THIS DYNAMO HAS PLACED MALAYSIA AS AN EDUCATION CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE FOR CREATIVE STUDIES AND THE RECENT 'CREATIVITY IN MOTION' IS A CASE IN POINT.
THE 25 DESIGNERS FROM 7 COUNTRIES ROPED IN 40 STUDENTS FROM 30 NATIONS TO MODEL THEIR GRADUATION COLLECTIONS SO IT WAS TRULY A WORLD IN ONE PLACE UNDER THE ROOF OF BANGSAR SHOPPING CENTRE. THE LAST TIME IT WAS HELD AT THE PAVILION AND I GUESS MANAGEMENT WANTED TO ROTATE VENUES.
AS I WAS SEATED IN THE FRONT ROW AND ANY NEARER TO THE STAGE I WOULD BE ON THE CATWALK, I ENJOYED A BRILLIANT SHOW OF LONG, LUSH LEGS WHICH ARE SHOWN HERE FOR YOUR EDIFICATION!
HERE WE GO!
OK OK ENOUGH OF LEGS...HERE ARE THE FULL FRONTAL SHOTS COURTESY OF PRO PIXMAN RONALD GUNAWAN
The winners!
'Creativity in Motion' was emceed by Malaz El-Naeim and Jonah Sithole from UK and Zimbabwe, hosts of Magic of Limkokwing radio show on Hitz.fm and the show was produced by the international graduating class.
The entire event was so sleek and polished and ran like clockwork I was beginning to suspect some professional PR agency was lurking in the background! But no, the whole show was conceptualised, concocted, created and carried out by the students themselves, giving them a taste of the real world filled with cranky clients. I signed in and was shown my front row seat by a student who asked if I would like a drink. I said 'Champagne please' and without batting an eyelid he said "Sure, if you give me the money I can run over to Cold Storage Supermarket to get for you." Cool answer! Max points for that rapier reply.
Both students and lecturers wore the usual all-black theme, the signature colour of Limkokwing University of Creative Technology which has become such a trademark that in Botswana, Swaziland and Lesotho in Africa, those wearing all black are dubbed as 'doing a Limkokwing' or a 'Limkokwing student'! Of course there is a Limkokwing University of Creative Technology in each of these up and coming nations.
So the atrium of Bangsar Shopping Centre did look like a sea of black ninjas as students and friends gathered to cheer the works of their fellow students and took up pole positions on the first, second and third floors for a panoramic, bird's eye view. The backdrop for the stage featuring a crouching girl facing each other was spectacular and the enthusiasm and vibes were so thick I could cut them with a butter knife.
Among the graduating class were students who are already leaving their mark (or stitches rather), in the local fashion scene. Talents include Lee Ji Hee of Korea and Astika Suprapto from Indonesia who won the first and third places in the recent Anugerah Perantis Muda fashion competition and Angeline Lee and Nicole Chan, finalists in the Mercedes Benz Stylo Fashion Festival. Previous graduates like Andy Yap and Rico Rinaldi have gone on to win awards at the Audi Fashion Festival in Singapore. Few know locally established designer like Jovian Mandagie, Catcha Corp's fashion director Sueann Chong and Miss Malaysia Universe 2010 Nadine Ann Thomas are all graduates from Limkokwing! I wish I could claim such honour but I am a graduate from Universiti Malaya. Nadine was the star model and well she should as she has once again made her alma mater proud.
This ongoing annual show is called 'Creativity in Motion' rather than 'Fashion in Motion' to salute the endless flow of creative juices required to bring to fruition a gob-smacking show. Also present were top designers Carven Ong and Khoon Hooi, platinum blonde-haired Gillian Hung, president of MODA and Winnie Loo of A Cut Above which was located above on the third floor.
The main driving force that evening from Limkokwing was of course the ever ravishing and stunning Tiffanee Marie Lim, Associate Vice-President of Creativity and Innovation who arrived like a superstar in all-black (of course) wearing glasses (perchance for that learned look?) and retro-cool red cap with veil! She was clutching a clutch (what kind of English am I using?) I particularly admired as it was vintage crocodile and I am fond of crocodile bags and have nearly 20 to prove it! Then Tiffanee sprang a surprise---she opened the flap to reveal an underside of python! "This bag looks like a million yet is by an unknown maker and not a designer brand!" she enthused. I was also enamoured by her 4 rings, each consisting of an alphabet that spelled L, O, V and E! And I thought I was the flashiest dresser! She consoled me by assuring me I was definitely the most flamboyant male dresser in the observable universe.
The audience sat back, relaxed and waited expectantly. They were not disappointed as the bankroll of wardrobe must-haves came fast and furious from designers inspired by Malaysian batek, tribal motifs, African art, Indian saree, Japanese obi, flora and fauna. Models were fellow students who performed admirably, proving almost anyone can take to the catwalk without having to be a six footer. Painted with gold patches and made-up by Shu Uemura, the models strutted forcefully and stylishly in creations that showed promise. One female model reached the end of the catwalk and posed perkily by wriggling her bottom while a male model even did a somersault!
With around 30,000 students from 12 campuses from a staggering 150 countries, Limkokwing University of Creative Technology is a mini-United Nations! It is the first international Asian university to establish itself on 3 continents, Asia, Europe and Africa which is a major feat. Limkokwing University is the first Malaysian, first Asian and first Commonwealth university to be allowed to be established in United Kingdom! This is a mega feather in its cap as not any institute is allowed to conduct classes in Great Britain even if you can afford the exorbitant rent in the heart of central London where Limkokwing University campus is located! And Limkokwing is recognised and approved by the British Education Ministry which adheres to stringent standards!
A photo is worth a thousand words, even if the illustrious words were written by glamorous me so here are the rest of the pictures of winners!
THE END!
