KEE@FSWMAG.COM

DARK, DREAMY, GLOOMY AND CREEPY CREATURES LURKING IN MYSTERIOUS HIDEY HOLES IS WHAT MANY THINK OF WHEN IT COMES TO GOTHIC DRESSING AND THEY ARE NOT FAR WRONG!

Just have a lookee at KL's youngest and most ardent Goth named Qi Qi! Gorgeously Victorian and mystically Morticia from Addams family! Love the clothes and style!

FOR THE UNINFORMED...
...Lolita fashion started in the 1990's as an opposition to Japanese uniform culture, in which people are expected to conform to the homogenous style of office-wear as a gesture of modesty. When a woman in Japan makes herself look outstanding, it would bring upon shame to herself and her family.

Additionally, Lolita fashion is a confrontational movement that rejects societal norms. The way Lolita styles veer towards achieving a child-like appearance is a counter to female stereotypes, in which women are bound to the binaries of being either "too sexy" or "too modest".

Lolita fashion proves that women can be cute and/or elegant without having to show off their skin, cleavage and curves. Especially in Japan, where pornography and prostitution is prominent, Lolita fashion serves as a feminist movement that exudes innocence and modesty, rather than "sexy and wild".

The common reason that Lolita fashion followers practice this fashion is to show that they dress this way only to please themselves, not to conform to what others say.

Lolita fashion has many subgenres, such as Gothic, Classic, Sweet, Nautical, etc., but the main characteristics that define a Lolita are their child-like appearances, and Victorian- and Edwardian-era influences. Typically, a petticoat (underskirt) and socks/stockings are Lolita fashion must-haves, as well as plenty of frills, lace, and ribbons.

Gothic Lolita fashion was popularised by the Visual Kei (Visual System) movement, which is a fashion movement from Japan that focuses on flamboyant elements, and combines fashion with music such as heavy metal and punk/glam rock. Gothic Lolita styles are often darker in colour for both makeup and clothes, sometimes implementing vintage, Victorian elements such as pocket watches, parasols, lace gloves, etc.
