LUMPUR, YAM TENGKU ZATASHAH SULTAN SHARAFUDDIN IDRIS SHAH, MEETS PRESIDENT OF FRANCE,
FRANÇOIS HOLLANDE, FOR THE CELEBRATION OF 130 YEARS OF ALLIANCE FRANÇAISE.
The Alliance Française Foundation celebrated its
130th anniversary of Alliance Française during its 35th international
convention held in Paris on 16th and 17th July 2013.
On this special occasion, the
presidents and the directors of Alliances Françaises from around the world
assembled at the headquarters of Alliance Française in Paris for the two-day
event themed “La Culture est une fête”
[Culture is a celebration].
On 16th July, the President of France,
François Hollande received the presidents of Alliance Française at a reception
at the Élysée Palace. Tengku Zatashah, daughter of the Sultan of Selangor, had the honour to
meet personally President Hollande and he expressed delight to have Malaysia
present in the celebrations.
That evening a gala soiree was held
at the iconic Parisian museum, Pompidou Centre, where other partners of the
worldwide network of Alliance Française were also invited.
The following day, on 17th July, Tengku
Zatashah participated in the French round-table titled “Les Voix du Monde” [Voices of the World]. Tengku Zatashah,
representing Asia, was one of six Alliance Française Presidents that hailed
from Dublin, Sydney, Paris, Harare, Bogota and Kuala Lumpur. She spoke of
Malaysian culture; the cultural diversity found in this country; and how racial
harmony and the celebration of each other’s culture is what make Malaysia so
unique and special.
Tengku Zatashah said “It was a real honour to meet the President
of France on such a momentous occasion, and a proud moment to be able share to
a global audience about Malaysia and our beautiful culture - an extraordinary
experience I will treasure always.
We, at
Alliance
Française de Kuala Lumpur, are proud to be part of this worldwide prestigious
network and we will continue to build strong relations between France and
Malaysia.”
What
is the Alliance Française?
Founded in Paris in 1884, Alliance
Française is a unique non-political, non-profit association that aims to
promote both the French language and Culture all around the world.
Today, the Alliance Française
represents the first world wide cultural network with 1,040 establishments in
136 countries from 5 continents. More than 450,000 people of all ages have been
taking French courses in the various Alliance Française centres, and more than
6 million people have been participating in the cultural activities of Alliance
Française. Every Alliance Française functions autonomously, founded on the base
of common values, while respecting the cultural diversity.
Alliance
Française de Kuala Lumpur was founded in 1961, and celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 2011. Organizer
of French cultural events such as the French Art and Film Festival, Fête de la
Musique, and partner to La Semaine de Goût, Alliance Francaise de Kuala Lumpur aims
at gathering and fostering exchanges between the French and Malaysian
communities. Tengku Zatashah has been President of
Alliance Française de Kuala Lumpur for two years now and was previously its
Vice-President.
As
President Hollande expressed in his speech for the 130th anniversary
of Alliance Française, “Voilà votre histoire. Elle est grande. Elle est majestueuse. Elle est prestigieuse.” [This is your story. It is great. It is majestic. It is prestigious].
