IF YOU ARE GOING TO SHANGHAI ON 1 DECEMBER 2012, YOU MUST ATTEND THIS EVENT!
Brawl on the Bund is Back!
Three Months of “Blood, Sweat and Tears” Culminates in a Fabulous Night of Charity White Collar Boxing
(Shanghai ,
China October
30, 2012) Brawl on the Bund XII presents yet another full night
of entertainment, gourmet food and unlimited beverages; spectators can indulge
in the famed black tie event of the year. White Collar Boxing China hosts the
Brawl on the Bund event in Shanghai
where regular men and women train for three months to compete in a ring for the
first time. And this event is extra special with White Collar Boxing China
aiming to pass the RMB 1 million in total donations to Leo’s Foundation on the
night. The event, scheduled for December 1, 2012 highlights a high stakes brawl
for bragging rights between two friends representing partner entrepreneur
organizations.
The eagerly anticipated seventh edition of the fight
night in Shanghai will take place at the Kerry Hotel
in Pudong. In June of this year, Brawl on the Bund made the move across the Huangpu River
to the Kerry Hotel in Pudong where attendance doubled
to 1,000 spectators. Founder Shane Benis is keeping the venue but rearranging
the room to increase table space due to the overwhelming demand, “We'll shoot
for 1,200 people to attend Brawl on the Wall in December! We’re really trying
to go bigger and better than ever before!”
The glamour and clamor to attend “fight night” is for
a good cause. To date over RMB 850,000 has been raised for Half The Sky,
Xinxing Charity, Shanghai Healing Home, Sport For All and Leo’s Foundation. The
June 2 event in Shanghai
raised RMB 259,000 alone! Money is also raised through a live auction and
raffle on the evening. White Collar Boxing China is aiming to pass RMB 1
million in donations by the end of 2012. In order to capitalize on the success
Brawl on the Bund in Shanghai , the event is now
going national with White Collar Boxing debuting the ‘Brawl on the Wall’ in Beijing on November 17.
As with the Shanghai
event, the ‘Brawl on the Wall’, held at the Renaissance Capital Hotel, will
donate most of the proceeds to Leo’s Foundation for newborns with respiratory
failure and families who are unable to afford the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
facilities at the hospital. Since Brawl on the Bund first started donating,
over 30 children have been saved, which is what keeps Benis going, “The big
night is great, but the planning is hard. Stress. Panic. Stress. Sometimes my
passion for boxing isn’t enough. It all comes down to the kids. The work Leo’s
Foundation does is what’s truly incredible.”
This time round, to add a bit more spice to the
charitable boxing event, two boxers have been blogging, “Blood, Sweat and
Tears”, about their strenuous training in preparation for The Corporate Fight.
Friends Jason Dean Bosch and Alvin
“50 Shades” Graylin are competing in a test of overall prowess amongst their
global sister organizations, Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO) and
Evangelische Omroep (EO). The Corporate Fight sees a change in the dynamic of
the night as That’s Shanghai blog followers are learning about the boxers and
beginning to choose sides in preparation for the big match.
Jason Dean Bosch, fighting on behalf of Young
Presidents’ Organization, poignantly describes his experiences so far, “The
more I seem to train and learn, the more I find that there is to master, there
are so many techniques to this sport that make a better boxer, the problem
comes in, the moment I step into the ring, adrenalin starts pumping and
everything I learnt seems to fly straight out the window together with any
finesse and grace that I might have had.”
Though all of the fighters are novices, they’ll
prepare with trainers for three months in advance. In addition to the
much-anticipated YPO vs. EO corporate fight, there are “lots of
girls training to fight this time which is a welcome change” says Shane Benis.
Shortly before the big night last June, a female fighter was injured,
unfortunately excluding the female fight. This December with luck, some of the
hard-training women will star in the big event.
The last few Brawl on the Bund event tickets have sold
out quickly despite the three tiers of ticketing: Ringside (RMB 1,500), Gold
(RMB 1,100) and Silver (RMB 800), with a minimum purchase of a table of 10
people. The entry-level tier of RMB 800 for all the fights, entertainment, four-course
dinner, free flow wine and beer has increased the accessibility of the event.
The Title Sponsors of the event, and long time
supporters, remain Bar Rouge, part of VOL Group, with the official after-party
taking place at the prestigious Mr & Mrs Bund in Bund 18. Shanghai ’s number one sports bar Big Bamboo
sponsor all of the boxers in the Red Corner, while Cuadrak Architecture Studios
sponsor the Blue Corner. Additional Platinum Sponsors include SmartShanghai,
MUST Films and Mailman.

About White Collar Boxing China
White Collar Boxing China was formed in 2008 ahead of
the first Brawl on the Bund event in Shanghai .
The concept of White Collar Boxing originated in the legendary Gleason’s gym in
New York in
1988. It is a form of boxing where both men and women in white collar
professions train to fight in special events. Most have no previous experience
in boxing. Since the late 1980’s, White Collar Boxing has been the fastest
growing corporate contact sport in the world.
Run by boxing enthusiasts, White Collar Boxing’s home
in Shanghai is
at the new Golden Gloves Boxing Gym where men and women who want to learn the
ins and outs of boxing for the very first time can be trained up by a series of
boxing coaches.

About Leo’s Foundation
The Foundation for Newborns with Respiratory Failure
was established in 2008 in memory of Leo Spirit. Leo and his twin brother Tomas
were born three months prematurely and were cared for by the staff at Fudan
Children's Hospital. Despite the best care and attention of the doctors and nurses,
Leo passed away in November 2007 due to respiratory failure. Impressed by the
dedication and efforts of the hospital staff, Leo's parents, Scott and Cecile
Spirit, decided to launch the foundation in his memory with the aim of
providing access to the facilities of Fudan Children's Hospital for Families
who could not afford to pay for the treatment.
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is dedicated to helping care for sick newborn babies. Given the complications of treating tiny, often premature babies and the state of the art facilities and training required, it is fast becoming one of the most expensive units of the hospital. Unfortunately the high cost of treatment means that it is often beyond the means of ordinary and low-income families, so Leo’s Foundation offers the opportunity to keep this Unit running in the face of rising costs.
