NATIONAL DAY OF SWEDEN ON 4 JUNE 2015 HOSTED BY SWEDISH AMBASSADOR TO MALAYSIA
National Day of Sweden is celebrated every year on 6th June, but this year in Kuala Lumpur, the Royal Swedish Embassy we celebrated on 4th of June at the JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur.
Prior to 1983 it was called Swedish Flag Day until it was renamed National Day by the Riksdag.
The tradition of celebrating this day started in 1916 in the Stockholm Olympic Stadium in honour of King Gustav Vasa in 1523 and this epic election is considered the foundation of modern Sweden. It also signified the end of Danish ruled Kalmar Union and marked Swedisn independence.
In 2005 this day became a Swedish public holiday, replacing Whit Monday.

Ambassador to Malaysia, His Excellency Bengt G Carlsson and Madam Wiveka Carlsson hosted
the event to more than 350 guests comprising members of the diplomatic, Swedish and Malaysian business companies, associations and the Swedish community.
Representing the Malaysian Government and the Malaysian people was Honourable Datuk Mary Yap Kain Ching, Deputy
Minister of Education of Malaysia.
Guests were treated to the Swedish cuisines
and Malaysian satay. The ceremony also saw Ericsson celebrating its 50th anniversary with a stimulating speech by Todd Ashton, President of Ericsson Malaysia and guests enjoyed viewing the product demonstrations in the Ericsson booth.
Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan was also present at the event.
