Family' coffee table book!
I am so happy and honoured to see so many
friends, supporters, animal lovers and pet keepers.

have never been here before I can tell you Modesto Kota Damansara is
a hip and happening venue as it is operated by veteran party maker
Bob Wong! Bob has kindly co-sponsored today's event so let's give

Today's event is not a glamorous function for a
good reason.This is because we need every ringgit for HOPE
Animal Shelter and we
are not wasting our hard earned cash on unnecessary
expenses.
So when Bob agreed to help with the food and venue, we grabbed the chance as we want all the money we raised over the last 2 years to go towards the animal shelter in Johore.

How did WE ARE FAMILY book start?
It was dog lover Carven Ong the famous fashion designer who told me about Aunty Jia Jia who is the ultimate dog lover and pet promoter!
I met Aunty Jia Hia in 2013 in Johore Baru and she told me about HOPE Animal Shelter. Most pet owners are happy to donate RM 50 or RM 100 or even RM 1,000 to a good cause but how
many of us are willing to sell our own house to
build an animal shelter?
Aunty Jia Jia has done that!
Now she is living with the 2,000 stray and abandoned dogs and cats in a temporary animal shelter! Now this is something to be admired!

Carven and I rounded up like-minded friends and we decided to help raise funds. The 11 members of the We Are Family committee are:-

From the start, we agreed every ringgit collected would go to HOPE Animal Shelter and all miscellaneous expenses would be borne by every committee member. No personal bills were deducted from the total amount raised!
Like all fund raising, it was very difficult to ask friends and corporations for money but luckily we have thick skins and went around cap in hand asking and begging for donations.
It was daunting and challenging , a very dynamic and engrossing experience from start to finish but we are delighted to announce in one and half years we managed to raise RM 536, 350!
'We are Family' and Hope are very fortunate our honorable Prime Minister shares our passion and concern for ethical treatment of pets and other animals in Malaysian society. Although he is not with us today, he sends his warm support for the ongoing drive to raise funds for Hope building shelter.
Why are we doing this?
We want to build a society free of animal abusers and make it a crime to abandon, abuse and ill treat animals. Some think just because they are animals, they have no rights and we can play with them and dump them when we are bored with them. Remember every animal has parents or siblings and more important---feelings--- just like us!
Sadly in our country, cruelty towards animals is so common as the authorities don't have the time and resources to investigate and punish the abusers.
So we need to educate Malaysians to care and respect animals. They are God's gift to us and we should love them the same way we love our
family members. Those who keep dogs and cats
treat them as family which is why we chose the name 'We Are Family'
for the book.
Animal shelters in Malaysia require a lot of money to operate as many strays and abandoned pets are simply left to these shelters, often without a word.
The animals are just thrown into the compound with the pet owners driving quickly away!
We need support from the Corporate sectors, to include animal shelters in their CSR programs though I understand human needs must come first.
Our journey to assist HOPE Animal Shelter in building new shelter is just the beginning so please help to spread the word through your networking.
We hope sponsors are happy to continue to
support our fundraising campaign.
Helping animals give us and them Love and Life!
While over half a million ringgit sounds a lot, HOPE Animal Shelter needs more than RM 1 million to build so we are only halfway there!
We hope housing developers and contractors
especially those in Johor can help by donating recycled materials and
surplus building materials and equipment like cement, wood,
stones and anything useful for construction. Furniture manufacturers can
also donate old chairs, tables, desks etc as well as lamps and lighting.
Please pass the word around as some of you may have contacts who can help.We need assistance both in cash and kind and if you know any pet food suppliers who would like to contribute dog food, please contact us.
We are all pet lovers here so imagine if you are not around to look after your darling doggie or precious pussy and they become homeless
and their lives are at risk. I look at my 2 dogs
and shudder to think how they will suffer if I am not around.
Likewise the abandoned dogs at HOPE Animal Shelter once had loving owners but are now left to fend for themselves. To us, our pets are truly our family!
