RM 175 MILLION FOR A CANVAS?

SUPER GENIUS AS I AM, EVEN I MAY HAVE A WEE BIT OF TROUBLE PAINTING A CLONE OF 'MONA LISA' WITH HER ENIGMATIC SMILE. NUT I CAN PAINT PICASsO'S MUSE MARIE-THERESE WALTER IN 10 MINUTES FLAT! AND I AM HAPPY TO SELL FOR RM 1,000! 


BUT THIS, ER, MASTERPIECE IS BEING AUCTIONED WITH AN ESTIMATED PRICE BETWEEN RM 125 MILLION UP TO RM 175 MILLION!

IF YOU ARE A NORMAL PERSON WHO DID NOT SPEND 4 YEARS IN UNIVERSITY STUDYING PAINTING, YOU WOULD ASSUME THIS PAINTING WAS DONE BY MY 5 YEAR OLD GODSON DANIEL MANTZ.

But this painting was by Picasso and hence the shocking price that beggars belief!

If you are happy to pay RM 175 million for a piece of canvas, bear in mind this excludes the buyer's premium which is anything from 12% to 15%!

I think you should use your loose change of RM 175 million to feed the poor so you can enter heaven more easily.

Call me a Philistine but I can think of better ways to squander my RM 175 million than this. If you like this painting so much, hang a poster of it for RM 175 and the effect is the same. Then use the RM 175 million (excluding premium for Sotheby's) to house, feed and educate the poor. 

Or in the worst case scenario, buy distressed properties in near bankrupt Europe which can generate income which you can use to donate to charity.

Actually since I am an art lover, I must admit this painting has something going for it but I would not pay more than RM 10,000 (2 hundred pounds) which is a lot considering I can replicate it on any medium in 20 minutes flat.

This painting is so simplistic and probably completed in 10 minutes with 1 eye closed by Picasso that only the most dedicated art lover or the most misguided can buy and love it. Picasso even forgot to draw proper fingers unless he wished the lady to wear mittens or gloves for he right hand. Even the Simpsons are drawn better! I bet Bart would fart at this RM 175 million price tag!

Featuring an exceptional group of works from eminent collections, the sale will also offer Claude Monet’s memorable Nymphéas avec reflets de hautes herbes of 1914-17 (est. £12 – 18 million) from the artist’s most celebrated series of works, and an outstanding example of Miró’s important post-war paintings, Femme revant de l’evasion (est. £8 – 12 million) that comes to auction for the first time in 50 years from the Wallach Collection.
