MAGGIE CHOO’S LAUNCHES GAY NIGHT
###

Maggie Choo’s is launching their “Love Your Own Kind” or gay night on Sunday August 24th. The night, titled “The Importance Of Being Earnest” aims to attract the gay market already very present in the Silom area, where Maggie Choo’s is also located.

Famous for their Asian female models dressed in qipao and balancing on their swings, Maggie Choo’s has inverted the casting for their gay night, featuring topless hunks dressed with red silk trousers and a black turban.

A touch of mystery is added with their eyes made-up with charcoal eyeliners, bridging the gap between Far East and Middle-Oriental fairytales.

The sight of more-than-fit topless young men is also very appreciated by the female audience, the night being opened to guests of any sexual preferences.

“I’ve always been told by my guests and friends - why don’t you do something for the gay community or the girls?” says Sanya Souvanna Phouma, founder and manager of Maggie Choo’s. “I’ve been used to organize gay nights at Bed Supperclub, but with Maggie Choo’s, we are taking the concept a bit further, with more provocative and fun entertainment.”

Another point of differentiation with regular nights lies in the line-up of DJs in lieu of live bands, delivering a playlist of deep-house, disco and pop tracks. But the main ingredient of the night is in the program of live acts, hosted by Pangina Heals, Thailand’s most outrageous and daring drag queen.

Sanya adds “We always wanted quality acts at Maggie Choo’s which were also driven by a true entertainer that could interact with the audience and Pangina Heals delivers more than that and the crowd, whether gay or not, are mesmerized by the sense of repartee and the energy she has on stage.

"The cabaret dimension of Maggie Choo’s is often minimized on other nights but on Sunday it is first and foremost a cabaret (Maggie Choo was a cabaret owner who fled Shanghai to open her place in here in Bangkok).”

“The Importance Of Being Earnest” takes inspiration from Oscar Wilde’s play depicting the hypocrisy of the Victorian Era, where the main characters admit to themselves they lead a double life in reaction to the unbending morale of the end of the XIXth century in Great Britain. The night is programmed every Sunday with live acts starting at 9:30pm.

Maggie Choo’s delivers live acts on a nightly basis, with house bands and resident DJs. Located on the basement of Novotel Silom; it is housed in what would have been a 150 year-old brick-laden depot built by the East India Company.

Open every night from 7:30pm to 2am.
