THE JOURNEY OF A LIFETIME ON BOARD THE EASTERN AND ORIENTAL EXPRESS IN AID OF ‘SAVE WILD TIGERS’

A Stunning and Unique Collection of Tiger Inspired Events Coming Exclusively To Malaysia This September and October 2014
Belmond, in partnership with global charity Save Wild Tigers, announces details of “INSPIRE” – a stunning and unique collection of Tiger inspired events, coming exclusively to Malaysia this September / October 2014.

As part of the two-month long celebrations to draw awareness to the demise of wild tigers left in the world, of which only circa 300 are Malayan Tigers, a fortunate few have the opportunity to reserve a cabin on a very special ‘Eastern & Oriental Tiger Express’ journey, taking place between October 2-6, 2014.

The journey begins at the iconic Raffles Hotel in Singapore, where guests can see a stunning Crystal Tigress sculpture on display, which has been created by the highly-accomplished Lauren Baker, using over 50,000 Swarovski crystals.

Then, following a luxurious overnight stay, guests and the Crystal Tigress will travel on board the Eastern & Oriental Express to Kuala Lumpur, joined by international celebrities, including fashion-icon Jimmy Choo, TV-personality Gok Wan from the UK, and actress Jamie Winstone.

That evening, guests will join an impressive fund-raising event hosted by the Save Wild Tigers charity at the famous Majestic Hotel, where Her Royal Highness Sultanah of Pahang will be the dinner’s Royal Patron.

A tiger-inspired fashion show, part created by the esteemed Malaysia-based designer Tom Abang Saufi, will support a series of exquisite pieces of entertainment throughout the evening.

The event culminates with a live-auction for the Crystal Tigress, with all proceeds going to support tiger conservation projects in Johor and Pahang, Malaysia.

On October 4th, guests of the Eastern & Oriental Tiger Express will enjoy a breakfast reception at the Eastern&Oriental hotel in Penang, which officially launches a two-week long tiger-inspired photographic exhibition at the property.

In addition,on the following day, train passengers will join tiger experts for a jungle trek to the River Kwai bridge.

This five day adventure completes on October 6th with a cocktail reception and overnight stay at the Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok.

Save Wild Tigers is an independent, non-profit organisation registered in the UK dedicated to turning back the clock for wild tigers. Tiger numbers have declined dramatically and have now reached a critical stage with only 3,500 left in the wild – their survival is in the balance.

Up to 30% of ticket prices for this journey will go directly to targeted tiger conservation programmes, including The Born Free Foundation, the Environmental investigation agency and Mycat in Malaysia. (Full details on savewildtigers.org)

Prices start from £2,960 (approx. US$ 4,832) per person for this five days/four night journey – for full terms and conditions and to make a booking visit: easternandorientalexpress.com/tiger.

**30% of the Eastern and Oriental Tiger Express ticket price, along with the proceeds from the Save Wild Tiger (SWT) Gala Dinner in Kuala Lumpur, will be split between Save Wild Tiger initiatives run by the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) Malaysia, the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) and the Born Free Foundation (BFF).

Initiatives include:

  • Doubling Malayan tiger numbers in the Endau Rompin Landscape in the Johor and Pahang areas of peninsular Malaysia. WCS projects monitor tiger populations, train teachers in environmental education, maintain & establish habitat corridors and carry out on the ground patrols to prevent poaching.

  • Investigations and campaigns on the illegal trade in tiger parts and products run by the EIA. Investigators work undercover in dangerous circumstances to gather evidence of the illegal tiger trade across South East Asia which provides evidence for law enforcement agencies.

  • The Satpuda Landscape Tiger Programme (managed by Born Free Foundation) which works to engage communities, secure crucial tiger habitat, tackle wildlife crime and monitor tiger populations in one of the most important tiger habitats left in the world.

About Save Wild Tigers:
Save Wild Tigers is a global charity initiative set up by Simon Clinton in 2011. Save Wild Tigers work in conjunction with leading conservation charities such as the Born Free Foundation, the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) and MYCAT in Malaysia. Working together, their goal is to end the illegal trade in tiger parts and protect wild tigers in their natural habitat.

Simon Clinton, Founder, Save Wild Tigers said: “Our mission is to provide urgent and ongoing targeted support for tiger conservation in a bid to combat and reverse the increasing threat of extinction that wild tigers face.”

Specifically:
  • Raise awareness within Tiger range and non-Tiger range countries of the issues and actions required to save the wild Tiger.

  • To raise significant funds to support global yet targeted Tiger conservation programmes throughout Tiger range countries.

  • Together we are working globally to provide a unified, focussed and coordinated programme of Tiger conservation initiatives including the Born Free Foundation's field projects which engage communities to help secure vital tiger habitat and keep wildlife in the wild; and EIA's investigations which protect the environment with intelligence by exposing the criminal networks that exploit the tiger trade to such deadly effect.
