GOING GAGA IN MANILA

The official picture of Lady Gaga for her Born This Way Ball concert. She looks like a corpse who had been dead for 3 days but this was intentional. Look at her scary eyes and hollow cheeks and dreadful make-up but we love you, Lady Gaga!

We took our seats early but I also went out to snap photos and getting snapped!

All ready for Lady Gaga!

We were given bling rings that actually blinked with led lights! So did her Hermes Birkin RM 172,000 handbag!

Now it was fullhouse!

This pregnant woman came and stood all night long!
L1170221.JPG
Is she pregnant or just fat! Let's hope she was just fat as she stood all night long---that's devotion!

Princess Becky Leogardo, Michael Mantz and Kee Hua Chee arrived at the Arena at MAll of sia in Manila around 6.30pm and the show started around 9pm.

DUE TO THE BLESSINGS OF BUDDHA AND JESUS CHRIST, I WAS ABLE TO ATTEND LADY GAGA'S CONCERT CALLED 'BORN THIS WAY BALL' ON 21 MAY 2012 ON MONDAY.

THOUGH DIVINE INTERVENTION WAS AT WORK, I STILL NEEDED TO PAY AIR ASIA FOR THE FLIGHT, ASCOTT RESIDENCE IN MANILA FOR ACCOMMODATION, RESTAURANTS FOR MEALS AND EVEN MORE IMPORTANT, RM 850 FOR THE TICKET!

SALVATION WAS IN THE BEAUTEOUS FORM OF PRINCESS DR BECKY LEOGARDO WHO SPONSORED MY TRIP AND FOOTED ALL THE BILLS.

AT FIRST SHE WANTED TO FLY TO BANGKOK FOR THE 17 MAY SHOW BUT ALL TICKETS WERE SOLD OUT. SO WAS SINGAPORE, JAKARTA AND HONG KONG. SEOUL AND TOKYO WERE TOO FAR SO JUST AS WELL MANILA HAD TICKETS AS IT WAS HER HOMETOWN.

As 20 May was her birthday, we had to fly on the morning of 21 May as the show was the evening of 21 May and the only flight available was the morning of 21 May at the unearthly hour of 6.30am!

So after Princess Dr Becky's birthday bash at Shangrilla Ballroom we went home to change and shower and left KL for LCCT at 3.30am. There was no other morning flight as we preferred a flight leaving around 11am but we had no choice.

Worse the Air Asia flight arrived at Clark Base airport and NOT Manila International Airport so we had to take a car to Makati which took another 2 hours! Luckily Princess Becky had a 4-wheel drive waiting so it was a luxury trip after all as we slept as much as we could.

Princess Becky Leogardo, hubby Michael Mantz and I checked into the 2-room suite at Ascott in the heart of Makati's shopping and dining and banking district where all the designer labels reside.

We slept for 2 hours before dressing up for Lady Gaga. The concert 'Born This Way Ball' was held at the new Arena next to Mall of Asia. This brand new, monster-sized concert and convention centre opened on 19 May and Lady Gaga's concert was the first so Lady Gaga should be happy to know she broke the virginity of Arena!

ALL the baclak (flaming faggots) of Manila and half the baclak from the provinces and jetsetting ones from neighbouring countries must have congregated at Arena to support Lady  Gaga.

Many were dressed to kill and thrill with killer heels!

As I was the only Malaysian journo representing Malaysia, my legion of fans begged me to dress up proper as befitted Lady Gaga and of course I could not let my country down. So I chose my wardrobe carefully so as to outshine not only the Manila fans but Lady Gaga herself. The first group I won hands down but the couture contest between me and Lady Gaga was a draw.

Spikes were de rigeur so I went searching for shirts with spikes large enough to poke anyone's breasts and eye. I have some already which I bought in London and Melbourne but the spikes were  not that big and were made with plastic and resin which could be physically painful when poked.

Finally I found a Daniel Palillo t-shirt with 10 large spikes shaped like pyramids bought in Singapore at great expense at RM 800. The spikes looked evil and menacing and lethal enoug to maim and mutilate but are harmless as hamsters. They were big, bold and beastly and could have been a uniform from a computer game's villain.

True enough, the instant Princess Becky, Michael Mantz and I swiped our tickets past the guard, a TV crew pounced on me and took our photos. This was to repeated several times throughout the evening and I took as many photographs as I was photographed!

Many 'Little Monsters' (the pet name given by Lady Gaga to describe her fans the same way Edna Everage called her fans 'possums') were decked in outfits that mimicked Lady Gaga's wardrobes with spectacular wigs, headgear, shoes and frocks. Some costumes were so impractical (but stunning) only the most monstrous of Little Monsters could wear them.

One Little Monster turned up with a costume similar to mine but his spikes were made of wood and created for the occasion by a designer which charged him 100,000 pesos! That was around RM 7,200!

We were neck to neck in the most Gaga-ish costume contest but he was disqualified as the management forced him to remove his jacket as the wooden spikes could really hurt someone and in the crush, some guy or gal was bound to be injured. Getting a new outfit was easy as Lady Gaga t-shirts were on sale as if they were free judging by the long queue.

The wearer later appeared on TV complaining and lamenting bitterly together with another guy whose spectacles were confiscated (and returned after the show) as it was made entirely of safety pins. He was told he could seriously hurt someone if he fell on him or her as well as cut his own face.

The food and drinks stalls did a roaring business which surprised me as they were not cheap but I guess all the Little Monsters were rich or came from rich families. Our tickets at RM 850 were the second most expensive as the most expensive were those by the edge of the stage which cost nearly RM 1,000 but it was standing room only! No seats at all and we would have to stand for 3 to 4 hours solid and not even go to the loo as our spot would be lost!

Well, at my age and in my condition, my dear, I was not going to stand all night long.

Our seats were comfortable and we sat on the left side of the stage which commanded a great view of the stage. Coincidentally it was almost the exact same area I sat for the Madonna concert 3 years ago in Amsterdam, also sponsored by Lady Becky, oops I mean Princess Becky who paid for my flight and Michael Mantz who paid RM 1,800 for the VIP seat that came with pre and after drinks of champagne and canapes and food but without an audience with Madonna.

HERE ARE LADY GAGA'S LITTLE MONSTERS PAYING HOMAGE TO THE MOTHER OF ALL MONSTERS HERSELF LADY GAGA!
