I AM A FAN OF MANDARIN ORIENTAL AND HAVE BEEN SO SINCE THE HOTELS WERE SEPARATE ENTITIES CALLED THE MANDARIN OF HONG KONG AND THE ORIENTAL OF BANGKOK.
Each of course was the bestestest hotel in Hong Kong and Bangkok and so it was a marriage made in heaven when the two merged to become Mandarin Oriental!
The logo of Mandarin Oriental is a fan, as in the thingy you use to fan yourself to keep cool when in the verandah sipping afternoon tea when the aircon breaks down.
Very cleverly, Mandarin Oriental plays on the pun as obviously (unless you no speak England) a fan also refers to an admirer or supporter, as in fan of Kee Hua Chee or football fan.
There is already a long list of 23 fans, ranging from David Tang, founder of Shanghai Tang to Datuk Michelle Yeoh, the only Malaysian. There is also Sa Ding Ding who I presume is not a panda or poodle but a person as in Bo Gua Gua. Lucky my parents did not name me Kee Hua Kee though I prefer Kee Kee Kee! But Buddha and Kwan Yin told me KEE HUA CHEE will be world famous!
MANDARIN ORIENTAL ANNOUNCES NEW CELEBRITY FAN FOR
GLOBAL BRAND ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN
Renowned Hong Kong actress and singer, Karen Mok
officially welcomed as newest celebrity fan for Mandarin Oriental’s
award-winning campaign
Hong Kong, 26 April 2012 – At a press conference held today at
Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, multi-award winning actress and singer Karen Mok
was officially welcomed as the latest celebrity fan for Mandarin Oriental Hotel
Group’s USD multi-million global advertising campaign “He’s a Fan/She’s a Fan”.
Ms
Mok was presented with a signed copy of her photograph for the campaign, taken
by the Group’s renowned portrait photographer, Mary McCartney who photographs
each celebrity in a location of their choice which, for them, best represents a
feeling of well-being.
“We
are particularly delighted to welcome Karen, a Hong Kong born, internationally
renowned performer here at our flagship hotel and the birthplace of Mandarin
Oriental’s brand. Her phenomenal talent and grace is well known and she will be
an asset to our award-winning campaign, which celebrated its tenth anniversary
in 2010. By focusing on celebrities who clearly appreciate the finer things in
life, we have been able to show the quality of our hotels in a far more
interesting way than traditional hotel advertising”, said Jill Kluge, Mandarin
Oriental Hotel Group’s Director of Brand Communications.
For
Mandarin Oriental’s campaign, Karen Mok was photographed in Milan, outside the
historic Casa Degli Omenoni. Karen has been a big fan of the city ever since
she was a student there, and has expressed her delight that Mandarin Oriental
is opening a hotel in the city in 2013. Her favourite hotel
in the Group currently is Mandarin Oriental, Paris.
Ms
Mok’s photograph is featured as Mandarin Oriental’s ‘Brand New Fan’ in the
Group’s outdoor advertising campaign at Hong Kong’s City Hall site.
The
campaign is designed to raise Mandarin Oriental’s brand awareness globally, and
simply and elegantly connects Mandarin Oriental’s well-recognized symbol - the
fan - with international celebrities who regularly stay at the Group’s hotels.
In appreciation of their support, the Group makes a donation to each
celebrity’s individual choice of charity. Karen Mok’s charity of choice is Animals
Asia Foundation.
Karen
Mok joins Mandarin Oriental's 23 existing fans: Kevin Spacey, Christian
Louboutin, Sophie Marceau, IM Pei, Lance Armstrong, Michelle Yeoh, Jane
