As part of their Dine-Around series held in Kuala Lumpur's best restaurants, the dinner last night was at New Orleans Bar & Grill at Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa.
The most prestigious, glamorous and definitely bling-est hotel in Petaling Jaya, this 5-star establishment is long renowned for its superlative accommodation, services, facilities and of course food. It is also part of the world famous theme park Sunway Lagoon and Pyramid Shopping Centre so it is a mini-destination by itself for Malaysians and tourists.
Richard Latsch, director of Amee Philips Fine Jewellery and I arrived at 7.25pm and were rather sore to discover we were the second and not the first guests as Mr and Mrs Jonathan Lim had pipped us by several seconds.
The host and hostess and head honcho of Sunway Group were nowhere to be found at West Lake, the Chinese restaurant where canapes and appetizers were served prior to dinner proper at the adjoining New Orleans Bar & Grill.
Luckily Farizal Jaafar, Vice-President of Marketing for Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa was there to welcome me in the style I am accustomed. In other words, just ply me with food and drinks and sex.
Farizal provided the first two in great abundance but not the third so I went home a virgin as per usual. The Peking Duck at West Lake is to die for and I ate 5 pieces of the wrapped delicacy plus both drumsticks of the bird.
The Wagyu beef was delightful and the baby abalone was delicious and I was impressed as such expensive dishes are seldom served to non-paying guests! Another costly comestible were the bird's nests served in papaya! I was so amazed and delighted I ate 6. Or should that be 'drunk'?
In vain Farizal Jaafar pleaded with me not to over-eat as I need to plough through a full course dinner at New Orleans. But you never know if an earthquake might strike Sunway resort and dinner would be cancelled so I guzzled the various Chinese delicacies as if there was no tomorrow.
Only 26 fortunate friends of Dato and Datin Steve Day were invited and I didn't see YOU there...
Anyway, you can enjoy the selfsame menu I enjoyed for only RM 180 so you can still live my rich and fabulous lifestyle tonight or whenever just by calling 03-7492 8000.
Entertainment was provided by Marco from Cuba though many eyes were fixed on the pianist as he was both young and handsome. He looked familiar. Then I realised he is the lover of current Miss Malaysia World Yvonne Lee! I met them at G Six Club last month and he is Daniel Veerappan, son of Michael Veerappan the wellknown jazz pianist. Obviously his son has inherited his genes!
As usual, Dato Steve Day stood and introduced his guests so everyone knew how important and fabulous every guest was. Naturally he praised me to high heaven but then, all his guests got the same treatment, including his wife who has been his business partner for 29 years. Datin Su Day is now an accomplished cook as she has paid some RM 58,000 for a 9-month Cordon Bleu cooking course at Sunway University and should complete the course by early 2013, provided the world does not end on 12/12/12 or is that 21/12/12?
There were 3 ambassadors---Finland, Chile and Japan---and business people and I was the only one not employed fulltime.
The floral arrangements on our tables were spectacular and were a veritable botanical garden cum rockery with brilliant displays of hydrangea and white roses artfully embedded onto tree branches.
As for the food, I should have listened to Farizal's advice but I still managed to tuck in since I did not have lunch.

For the finale, the chefs, cooks, culinary team and service staff came out so we could thank them. The 3 ambassadors spoke on behalf of the guests and it was all I could do to stagger out from my seat to go to the loo and then home.
Another soul-satisfying night of fine food, friends and fellowship!
