THE ROYAL BARGE PROCESSION IN BANGKOK IS A MAJOR HIGHLIGHT NOT ONLY FOR TOURISTS BUT FELLOW THAIS AS THIS PROCESSION IS SO RARE AND SELDOM HELD THAT MOST THAIS HAVE NEVER SEEN IT LIVE BUT ON TV AND MAGAZINES!
How rare is this Royal Barge event?
So rare it has only been held 16 times in living memory! It was revived by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej in 1959 and is such a costly and elaborate procession it is held to mark only the MOST auspicious occasion, in this case the 85th birthday of the King of Thailand on 5 December.
If you are planning a trip, make sure it is Bangkok and mark 9 November as the date you MUST be in City of Angels. And make sure you buy tickets for a majestic and awesome view! You can view and photograph the full dress rehearsal from the comfort of Royal Thai Navy Pavilion but of course anyone can watch from public sites or the nearest waterfront buildings!
Thailand's Royal Barge procession is the world's most prestigious, powerful and precise procession on water!
The royal barges against the backdrop of the Royal Palace seem almost unreal as if from a digital photo but this is totally real!
