Malaysia Tatler presents another exemplary evening filled with style and exuberance for its 23rd Anniversary Ball

The Malaysia Tatler Ball has always been one of the most sought-after invites in town and this year’s celebration lived up to its reputation as the most glamorous and exclusive event of the year. Held at Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s crème de la crème were out in full force, all dressed to impress in their best attire and finest jewellery.

After having their photos taken upon arrival, guests mingled around, catching up with old friends and making new acquaintances. Dato’ Sri Mohd Effendi Norwawi and Datin Sri Tiara Jacquelina, alongside newcomers to the ball such as Ghazie Yeoh Abdullah and wife Rozie Zainuddin, Catherine and son Gabriel Mah, Paul Loosley and wife Jennifer Chan, Mathieu and Florence Duchemin, Sam Tan and wife Sally Looi and Tracey Lai were immediately enfolded into the circle of ball regulars, drawn into fun and stimulating conversations.

When the doors to the ballroom were flung open, the splendour within was revealed. Awash in a sea of purple and lilac, the luxury factor in the space was amped up with the classy floral arrangements from Flora, etc and the sleek Audi A8 and A6 models coolly parked at the front and back of the ballroom. Emcee Mark Felix started the ball rolling by inviting the Managing Director of Malaysia Tatler, Florence Fang, and the Chairman and CEO of Edipresse Asia, Barrie Goodridge, to come onstage for their respective speeches. Together with the rest of the staff, everybody present then raised their glasses to toast the magazine’s 23rd anniversary.

Shortly after, guests tucked into a delicious five-course dinner specially created for the occasion by Shangri-La’s culinary brigade. What’s great cuisine without superb accompanying drinks? The food was complemented perfectly with wines, champagne and liquor by Moët Hennessy Diageo Malaysia. In-between courses, Lancôme door gifts were hand-delivered to appreciative guests. For those who wanted a puff, there were cigars, courtesy of FWC Connoisseurs.

This year, talented ballroom dancers Angelina and Belman delivered a meticulously choreographed rumba and cha cha performance, complete with pulsating music that had guests’ feet tapping along to the music. The highlight of the evening, the annual awards presentation was next on the agenda and the following presentations were made in succeeding order:

With the formalities over and done with, guests flocked to the dance floor and shimmied away in gleeful abandon. When the popular Korean dance hit Gangnam Style by PSY blared over the speakers, guests cheered in unison and launched into the trademark dance moves aligned with the music video played on screen, their inhibitions forgotten.
