Amee Philips Fine Jewellers at Jalan Kelawei, Georgetown, received the honour of being the only Southeast Asian jeweller to be invited to the launch of the Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts’ Club (RREC)  2013 Yearbook at the Dorchester, one of London’s most exclusive and exorbitantly expensive hotels owned by the Sultan of Brunei.

The massive, 2.5 kg tome is an annual guide to the finest stuff money can buy as well as detailing the planet’s priciest and prestigious cars for perfinicky drivers.

The glossy publication’s theme for 2013 is  ‘Celebrating 150 Years of the Life and Legacy of Sir Henry Royce’ which highlights the remarkable achievements of the world’s most famous carmaker which the book reverentially refers to as ‘mechanician’.

The 444 page Yearbook is distributed to all 10,000 members of Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts’ Club as a privately produced gift which is part of the membership fees. Another 12,000 copies are sent to all Rolls-Royce and Bentley dealers worldwide.

Fortunately not all 10,000 Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts’ Club came and a crush was avoided as only 300 wee invited for the glittering champagne reception just before Christmas.

Says Amee Philips, “I participated in the annual 2011 London International Jewellery Fair at Earls Court in London when two directors of Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts’ Club visited my booth.”

They were so impressed with Amee Philips’ bling they invited her to the yearbook launch. Jim Fleming, chairman of Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts’ Club, so admired the Penangite’s designs and workmanship he made the stunning offer of giving her a promotional booth at the party!

“I was very honoured as each member of Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts’ Club own at least 1 Rolls-Royce and they are used to be best things in life!” exclaims Amee Philips. “You cannot buy an invite or pay for a booth as this high-powered party is by invitation only.”

Adds Jim Fleming, “We vetted each participant rigorously and made background checks on Amee Philips with our Malaysian connections. She more than fulfils our parameters as Amee stands on par with the rest.”

Amee Philips (married to Irishman Andrew Philips) was in good company as ‘the rest’ included Audemars Piguet, Adler, Dayekh, Penhaligon’s and Delaneau. Only 2 other Asian jewellers were invited---Qeelin from China and Cindy Chao from Taiwan. In one fell swoop, Amee Philips has catapulted into this elite group and put Malaysia and specifically Penang on the radar of game-changers!

Amee Philips’ category is ‘Exquisite’ for jewels and watches while the rest are ‘Affluence’ for private planes and yachts, ‘Ultimate Destinations’ for exotic getaways, ‘Luxury Living’ for real estate, ‘Indulge’ for food and drinks as well as a guide to skiing, health, travel, well-being and wealth management. All pandering to the whims and fancies of Rolls-Royce owners with bottomless pockets.

Continues Amee Philips, “Only 2 companies were allowed to set up stall at the Yearbook launch and both were jewellers---myself and Dayekh from Antwerp, Belgium. Other companies left their brochures and leaflets on the tables! This is testimony Malaysians are as good as their European counterparts when it comes to jewellery design and manufacture.”

Amee Philips is also the exclusive manufacturer of Zang Toi Fine Jewellery now selling in New York.

The gala started with a couple dancing inside a gigantic musical box followed by a speech by Quentin Willson, the British TV presenter and motoring expert, widely known as the host of ‘Britain’s Worst Driver’, ‘Fifth Gear’ and ‘Top Gear’.

Entertainment by Beau Productions included a raunchy can-can showcase and Swinging 1920s dance but the non-mobile and non-nubile stars were the 1954 Bentley R Type Continental Fastback and 1959 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud Drophead Coupe which were on sale and were gone within an hour.
