The Embassy Zone, brainchild of Sim Polenn
(Project Manager at that time), was first initiated in Art Expo Malaysia 2010,
only made possible with the support from three Latin American Embassies (the
“ACE” project), namely: Argentina, Cuba, and Ecuador.
The organiser and
participating Embassies were thrilled by the overwhelming response shown by the
visitors and exhibitors. Since then, the organiser has dedicated more space for
the Embassy Zone, with more and more Embassies starting to participate, the number
increasing from 3 Embassies in 2010 to 5 Embassies in 2011, 7 Embassies in
2012, and 10 Embassies in 2013.
This year, the Embassy Zone sees
participation from 13 Embassies, namely Austria, Belgium, Italy, Netherlands,
Romania, Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Iran, Mongolia, and
Philippines. Among them, Embassy of Austria, Netherlands, Romania, Mexico, and
Mongolia, are first-time participant. This year sees more European Embassies participating.
Each Embassy booth is represented by one
solo artist, an artist whom the Embassy is proud to represent. By presenting
only one artist, visitors can clearer view the process and evolution that the
artists have gone through in their careers and their improvements during their
artistic journey.
Most of them will be exhibiting their best pieces, or latest
artworks.
The idea of the Embassy Zone is to bring
art from countries not represented here by any participating galleries. It is a
way for visitors to access art from abroad that is otherwise unrepresented by
galleries usually exhibiting here.
It provides opportunity for the visitors to
admire exotic, various, wide and diverse range of arts from different parts of
the world. Enjoy!
The Embassy Zone also serves as a friendly
way to enhance bilateral ties between Malaysia and the respective participating
Embassies via cultural exchange and sharing of arts.
