BRUGES part 2

KEE@FSWMAG.COM

BRUGES IS SO WELL PRESERVED IT IS AMAZING AS ITS TOWN CENTRE FROM MEDIEVAL TIMES REMAINS INTACT AND UNCHANGED.

A time traveller from 15th century Bruges will find himself perfectly at home and at ease visiting Bruges today. By a fluke of luck, Bruges's ancient town centre was perfectly preserved and escaped the demolition ball during the 20th century when Belgium underwent a drastic transformation.

Brussels suffered the most from this architectural malfunction as many historic and belle epoque buildings were leveled to make way for progress without giving a hoot to preservation and its immediate surrounds.

As a result, the buildings in Bruges are from the 15th to 19th centuries while Brussels suffer from many eyesores with ugly 1960s, plasticky buildings adjacent with architectural gems.

In Bruges, there is consistency in the line-up which is a great rarity although the sight of what appears to be a light plane crash landing into the ground of the Church of Our Lady is rather jarring. How the church fathers can agree to this unnerving sight is beyond me. Perhaps they were given a divine revelation by Jesus Christ to install this crashed plane.

I prefer a modern statue of the Holy Trinity of Jesus, Virgin Mary and God gracing the garden of a church than the shocking sight of a plane with its nose buried into the earth. Then again, I am sooooo conservative and old fashioned, praise be to God.

From this angle, the light plane really looks like it had crashed nose first into the ground of Church of Our Lady!

Belly up!

Oopsy daisy. Wonder what the old monks think of this. They are probably turning in their graves at such sacrilege but actually I find it rather amusing but I am not the Pope.

All the historic buildings are from the same eras so there is great beauty in such rare uniformity

Such magnificent buildings hark at the golden age of Bruges from the 15th to 19th centuries

Leonidas and Mickey Mouse are good friends

Leonidas was a famous warrior from ancient Greece but I wonder why this chocolate firm decided to name itself after this general

These waffles with cherries are Bruges' specialty and every tourist must try them

Hiring an authentic horse drawn carriage for a leisurely ride through the old quarters of Bruges is not to be missed

Being taken for a ride in a horse drawn carriage is such an affordable luxury
