NOT WHEN THE OLD BAJU BELONGED TO SHINING ENGLISH SOCIALITE DAPHNE GUINNESS AND THE MONIES RAISED WOULD GO TO ISABELLA BLOW FOUNDATION.
For the terminally uninformed which is not so embarrassing as we live and play in Malaysia while all these shenadigans are in faraway London, Daphne Guinness is from the Guinness family which makes the stout we love to drink to make us strong and healthy. So she is very 'de rich' and buys couture and designer labels we way you shop at Zara and MNG and Topshop.
As for Isabella Blow, she was a fashion mentor, arbiter and contractor who discovered the late and great fashion designer Alexander McQueen, hatmaker Philip Treacy, model Stella Tennant and author/model Sophie Dahl. She was also the fashion editor for Tatler and Sunday Times. Sadly she committed suicide from acute depression on 6 May 2007 from paraquat the weed killer. Her dying words were purportedly "I am afraid I did not drink enough". Alas, she did.
Isabella's good friend Daphne Guinness has now raised RM 2.3 million for Isabella Blow Foundation which helps aspiring designers so we must take our hats to her for this good deed. From heaven, Isabella Blow must have looked down and grinned.
This photograph unexpectedly fetched the highest price of an amazing RM 625,000! It set a record for the photographer Mario Testino who took this picture of donor Daphne Guinness which may explain the frenzied bidding since she was the Good Samaritan. The presale estimate was only RM 100,000 which was also steep for me as this photo is not even unique as it is one of two!
Alexander McQueen from 'The Girl Who Lived in a Tree' collection 2008. Sold for RM 425,000 from a presale estimate of RM 73,500. It comes with a photo of Daphne Guinness by Mat Collishaw so the buyer got 2 for the price of 1.

Daphne Guinness is one of the rare breed rich enough to buy her own baju without begging Daddy, hubby, sugar daddy or lover for cash.
New world record for Christian Dior; this matador jacket with lacey skirt sold for RM 80,000 from a presale estimate of a mere RM 4,900!

Lace and sequinned evening gown sold for RM 55,000 despite being an unlabelled dress! However, to make it more palatable, the gown came with a nice photo of Daphne Guinness wearing this dress taken by Mat Collishaw. I think this is really not worth the price but since it is for charity, I shall moan no more
To prove its non-exclusive status, its presale estimate was a paltry RM 1,500!
Sensational heel-less shoes by unknown Japanese designer Noritaka Tatehana sold for RM 40,000 from a presale estimate of RM 7,300. This pair even sold for a higher price than the ones below by world famous Alexander McQueen! I cannot recover from this fiasco---might as well say someone else is a better blogger than Kee Hua Chee. No wonder the world is ending this 12/12/12!
I cannot believe these magnificently funky shoes by the late and great Alexander McQueen sold for less than the ones above by unheard-of Noritaka Tatehana. This pair sold for only RM 37,000 compared to Noritaka's RM 40,000. McQueen's statement shoes's presale estimate was double that of Noritaka at nearly RM 15,000

Landmark auction of contemporary fashion comprising 102 lots realises four-times the pre-sale estimate, with 88% of lots sold with bidders from 21 countries.

South Kensington, London – Christie’s evening auction of The Daphne Guinness Collection; Sold to Benefit the Isabella Blow Foundation realized a total of £476,800 / $744,285 / €595,523 – far-exceeding the pre-sale estimate of £100,000. The auction offered 102 lots, including a selection of dresses, coats, skirts, tops and jackets belonging to Daphne Guinness, as well as selected photographs and her signature shoes.
The top lot of the sale was Daphne Guinness, a photograph taken by Mario Testino for British Vogue, March 2008 which realized £133,250 / $208,003 / €166,429, setting a new world record price for the photographer at auction.* The top dress of the sale was an ivory silk tulle empire line gown, The Girl Who Lived In The Tree by Alexander McQueen, Autumn/Winter 2008-9, sold with Daphne Guinness, a photograph by Mat Collishaw (b. 1966), for Harper’s Bazaar UK, May 2012, which set a world record price for the designer at auction, selling for £85,250 / $133,075 / €106,477.** Two dresses (lots 41 and 99) offered in The Daphne Guinness Collection surpassed the previous world record price for McQueen at auction.
The auction’s purpose was to launch and raise funds for The Isabella Blow Foundation, set up by Daphne in memory of her friend to continue the work of Issie, supporting new and emerging talent in the sphere where art and fashion meet – a realm championed by Daphne. With the help of Christie’s specialists, Daphne selected pieces to be auctioned from her personal wardrobe which embody her personal style, most of which were acquired by Daphne directly from the designers themselves.
