PART 3; SULTAN AHMAD SHAH ENVIRONMENTAL TRUST EMERALD CHARITY GALA 2012

KEE@FSWMAG.COM

THE SULTAN AHMAD SHAH ENVIRONMENTAL TRUST (SASET) AND TEMENGGONG INITIATIVE THE OPERATING ARM OF SASET HAD A MAGNIFICENT LAUNCH ON 17 JULY 2012 AT THE MANDARIN ORIENTAL GRAND BALLROOM. TRULY A NIGHT OF HISTORIC IMPORTANCE!

Incredibly, the creator and conceptualiser of Sultan Ahmad Shah Environmental Trust is an unpretentious 18 year old prince! Insists Yang Amat Mulia Tengku Fahad Sultan Ahmad Shah, youngest child of the Sultan of Pahang, "This is not an ego booster. I am only a schoolboy at Eton but have been born into a life of privilege. My mother has taught me that I must use my position to help the less fortunate as I have been given everything I ever wanted. I love the rainforests of Pahang and SASET exists to make people more aware of the fragile ecological balance and how important it is to protect the environment."

Three years ago, 6 of his Eton schoolmates and friends visited Malaysia and Tengku Temenggong took them into Taman Negara (National Park). They were so enthralled at the natural splendour it struck the teenage prince it would be brilliant to establish a foundation to ensure it would stay that way.

He mooted his idea to his mother who agreed wholeheartedly. So did the Sultan of Pahang who personally gave RM 500,000 as seed money to jumpstart the foundation that would carry his name.

The 700 guests attending the official launch of Sultan Ahmad Shah Environmental Trust (SASET) were treated to a medley of shows and entertainment, starting from the native tribal dance of the Orang Asli of Pahang called Tarian Ibok followed by the 1Malaysia Choir from Limkokwing University and Creativity in Motion fashion show also by the talented students and models from Limkokwing University.

This was followed by a fashion show by Dato Tom Abang Saufi featuring the easy to wear batek garments modelled by celebrities while Dato Shah Rezza sang 'Kerbersihan Satu Keimanan'. A rare treat indeed as this multi-talented renaissance founder of Islamic Fashion Festival hardly performs unless the occasion is extremely special or by royal command.

Another fashion show by Edric Ong from Sarawak (Dato Tom Abang Saufi is also from this vast state) featured contemporary designs with ethnic touches. This was followed by Aizat Amdan who sang his own compositions as Edric Ong's models floated around.

Dato Khadijah Ibrahim performance ended just as Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak arrived. Iran-born comedian Maz Jobrani entertained with squeals of 'Malaysia Bolih' inbetween his jokes. Jobrani is part of a global comedy group called 'Axis of Evil' would you believe (yes I can).

Next was the auction conducted by Dato Nancy Yeoh on jewels donated by Dato Tracy Ong of Elegance Club at Bangsar Shopping Centre, Belinda of Flowers Diamond from Singapore and a pair of earrings from Sultanah Kalsom. The highlight was a brown Hermes Birkin bag that sold for RM 65,000.

The Royal Pahang Misfits (grandchildren of the Pahang Sultan) performed dressed in glam-slam Farah Khan dresses designed by Dato Farah Khan, president of Melium Group.

The evening ended with Dato Siti Nurhaliza as models wearing Mantra designs from Singapore modelled. Her 45-minute show was sensational.

All the Dato's except Dato Tracy Ong were Pahang Datos.
