A GRAND TOTAL OF 56 BEAUTY QUEENS FROM 56 NATIONS WILL COMPETE FOR THE COVETED AND PRESTIGIOUS MISS TOURISM INTERNATIONAL 2012 CROWN.
The grand finals will be held on 31 December 2012 at Sunway Resort, Spa and Hotel's Grand Ballroom. The Miss Tourism International pageant is the first and only beauty contest held on New Year's Eve so guests can ring in the new year in the presence of luminous beauties!
Last year, a record was established when Miss Malaysia Gabriella Robinson won the title for the first time in history! In 14 years since it started, no Malaysian had ever won the Miss Tourism International title and Gabriella Robinson did us proud when she smashed the record.
This year, the pressure is on for Miss Malaysia Tourism June Yong, 20, to establish yet another record should she win as that will be the first time one nation has won the title in 2 consecutive years!
As a judge, I was very impressed with Jun Yong Wan Jun as she was the most articulate and sophisticated beauty queen as her command of English was flawless. She spoke convincingly and her sincerity showed. When I asked if she deserved to win, she said "Every contestant deserves to win and I am certainly doing mys best. The fact I am here is victory enough. I am not Gabriella Robinson. I am myself."
Dato Danny Ooi founded Miss Tourism International in 1996 where it was held in Kuching, Sarawak. Since then, the venue has been Sunway Resort, Spa and Hotel as long as anyone can remember!
Today, Miss Tourism International is the world's most established and acclaimed tourism beauty contest and the one of two international beauty pageants that were created in Malaysia.
The other international contest is Miss Tourism Queen of the World which is held in China and was also created by the indefatigable Dato Danny Ooi. Unlike Miss Tourism International which is held in Kuala Lumpur, the Miss Tourism Queen of the World is held in different cities in China. The latest edition was held recently on 2 December 2012 in Nanjing, Jiangsu province.
Usually the winners are announced around 11.30pm so everyone could enjoy a countdown with the newly crowned Miss Tourism World.
This year, a new record is established. The event will begin at 8.30pm sharp and the winner and first and second runners-up will be announced at 10.30pm.
The winners and all the beauty queens will then be bussed to Dataran Merdeka to join Datuk Rais Yatim, Minister of Culture for the countdown at midnight.
Then the beauty queens will be ferried back to Sunway Resort, Spa and Hotel to continue the party! Meanwhile, guests who paid for the tickets will enjoy a different entertainment programme.
Traffic is problematic but since outriders will be provided, hopefully the beauty queens will arrive and depart Dataran Merdeka without a hitch.
