CHNG HUCK THENG OF PENANG ESTABLISHED A RECORD AS THE FIRST MALAYSIAN SCULPTOR TO SELL A SCULPTURE FOR S$ 21,000 AT THE 6 MAY 2012 AUCTION ORGANISED BY 33AUCTION HOUSE OF SINGAPORE. THE AUCTION WAS HELD AT GRAND HYATT AND BIDDING STARTED AT S$ 11,000 AND PICKED UP TEMPO WITH EACH INCREMENT OF S$ 1,000 TILL IT REACHED S$ 21,000.
Coupled with the buyer's premium of 15%, the total cost to the new buyer was S$ 24,500 or RM 60,790.
