PERTH FASHION FESTIVAL UPDATE

AKEE@FSWMAG.COM

I KNOW MANY ARE CURIOUS ABOUT THE LATEST DEVELOPMENTS IN THE UPCOMING PERTH FASHION FESTIVAL SO HERE IS NEWS ABOUT THE 'LUCKY 13'!

PERTH FASHION FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES 2012 WA DESIGNER COLLECTIONS!
Perth Fashion Festival has announced the lucky thirteen Western Australian labels to showcase their designs in WA Designer Collections at this year’s Perth Fashion Festival (PFF) 2012.
Fashion followers will be treated to one spectacular show featuring multiple designers all under the one roof at Fashion Paramount in September.

WA Designer Collections focus on emerging Western Australian design talent with participating labels selected by a panel.

“Labels are selected by an independent panel of industry experts across the retail buying, media, and design industries. Applications are open to all WA based designers in the developmental stage of their careers that have been operational as a label for five years or less,” says Chelsey Wayte, Designer Liaison, Perth Fashion Festival.

“The panel judges each designer against set criteria, looking for those with strength in areas such as quality of construction, design innovation, collection cohesion, and runway appeal. We received an overwhelming amount of applications this year, and I am thrilled by the calibre of labels that we have in store for WA Designer Collections 2012.”

2012 participating designers include:
The juxtaposition of male and female elements is central to Ange Lang’s overall reductive aesthetics. Each gown pays homage to classic design, ensuring it holds fashion equity in a rapidly changing consumer market.

Anna Excell creates beautiful and wearable garments with a strong emphasis on colour; her garments are hand dyed in unique shades, exclusive to the label.

Catini Designs debuted on the WA Designer Collections runway during PFF 2011 with their very first Spring/Summer collection Precipice, launching the label into the Australian fashion industry with elegantly unique pieces.

Founded in 2008, Martini & Coz create accessories for individuals inspired by the love and timelessness of old glamour.

Distinctive silhouettes and transcendental qualities are what best define Monster Alphabets' architectural style. The discussion of form, light, silhouette, structure and minimalism is evident in designer Sarah Watanabe’s designs.

Since establishing the label with one off dresses made from vintage fabric, On A Whim has become known for their vintage styling and fabrics.

Since showing at Student Runway during PFF 2010, Peppermint Milk has continued to produce perfectly tailored garments reminiscent of times gone by and feminine traditions lost.

The very talented Natalie Donovan, the designer behind Wild Horses created a label that aims to capture the simplicity of simple beauty and vintage chic.

Tindale designs are founded on a concept rich in feeling and soul. Their collection Forgotten Beauty is inspired by the architectural elements of historical buildings and the impact of time and ageing.

Jewellery designer Alushia Sanchia draws inspiration from her nomadic upbringing and is largely influenced by her love of animal totems, tribes, gypsies, love, mother earth, music and the sun.

N&H is a fresh new WA label by designer Robin Alexander. The debut collection features stunning printed summer dresses inspired by hot summer nights.
