ABOUT:
Michiko Kasahara, an established
authority in and curator of Japanese photography, started as a curator with the Tokyo
Metropolitan Museum of Photography in 1989.
After a four year term at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo, in the interim, she returned to the Metropolitan Museum as the Chief Curator in 2006.
Amongst her many international achievements is her appointment as the commissioner for Japan at the fifty-first Venice Biennale (2005).
In 2008, she was on the panel for MoMA's discussion on 'Postwar Japanese Art: A Panel'.
Her work has been recognised through The Photographic Society of Japan Award (2002) and a number of prestigious awards for her curatorial essays.
