SHANGRI-LA HOTEL, KUALA LUMPUR
PRESENTS A BIRTHDAY CAKE
FOR SERI PADUKA BAGINDA YANG DI-PERTUAN AGONG
A birthday cake fit for a King!
Yesterday 5 June 2014, Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur presented a majestic birthday cake to Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan
Agong XIV Al’ Mutasimu Billahi Muhibbuddin Tuanku Alhaj Abdul Halim Mu’adzam
Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah at the Istana Negara on Friday, 6 June
2014, on the occasion of His Majesty’s birthday celebration.
The ornate, elegant cake in white, gold, red and green had the theme
“One Team, One Malaysia”. It was the
work of the hotel’s Senior Sous Chef Lee Sheng Wuai and his pastry team of six
people.
They took three weeks to
complete the masterpiece featuring a vase-like structure standing on a broad
circular base. All the intricate decorations are arranged around the base,
together with the One Malaysia logo, to symbolise the unity of the states under
the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong’s reign and in keeping with the theme “One Team, One
Malaysia”.
The whole cake stands two metres high and weighs 160 kilograms.
At the top of the cake is a beautiful crown of 80 red hibiscus, the
national flower, made from sugar paste. To
produce the cake, the chef and his team used 200 eggs, 24 kilograms of butter,
24 kilograms of sugar, 30 kilograms of flour, 18 kilograms of raisins, 27
kilograms of citrus peel, 15 kilograms of cherry mix and 40 kilograms of icing
sugar.
