Her
name was Katie Kirkpatrick, 21 yrs old. Her fiancé and husband Nick was 23. These photos were taken before and during their wedding on 11 January 2005. Katie had terminal cancer and spent hours in chemotherapy.
Even in pain and dealing with her organs shutting down, with the help of
morphine, Katie took care of every single part of the wedding planning.
Her bridal gown had to be adjusted several times due to Katie 's constant
weight loss.
An expected guest was her oxygen tank. Katie had to use it during the
ceremony and reception. Nick's
parents were totally delighted with the wedding as they saw their son marrying
the girl he fell in love when he was an adolescent.
In the middle of the party, Katie had to rest for a bit and catch her
breath. The pain did not allow her to stand for long period of time.
Katie died 5 days after her wedding. To see a fragile, boney and dying woman dressed as
bride with a beautiful smile and a proud husband must be one of the most beautiful images I have ever seen. Makes you think... Happiness is always there
within reach, no matter how long it lasts. Let's enjoy life and don't complicate it. Life is
too short.
Work as if it was your first day.
Forgive as
soon as possible. Love without boundaries. Laugh
without control and never stop smiling. Please pray for those
suffering from cancer and everything else. Just so should you be stricken with a terrible illness, you will be happy to know someone is praying for you too.

Katie Kirkpatrick
Godwin, 21, delayed her terminal cancer just to celebrate the happiest
event of her life.
Katie had chased away cancer once, only to have it return---this time with a deadly vengeance to clog her
lungs and grab hold of her heart.
Breathing was so difficult she had to use an oxygen tank.
The pain in her back was so intense it broke through the morphine that was
supposed to act as a shield.
Her organs were shutting down one by one but they could not stop her from marrying Nick
Godwin, 23, who was in love with Katie since 11th grade.
Five days after she became Mrs Godwin, Katie died.
Katie did not allow such a little thing as cancer to interfere with her life, to deprive her
from hope or faith or to get married.
She had a beautiful wedding, she loved so strongly and she gave love.
And her love did not die. That’s how Katie struggled with cancer.
Guess what...in the end, she beat cancer because she lived, loved and died fulfilled and no cancer can take that away. And Nick, you are so very, very, very lucky because you have Katie waiting for you in heaven. Even if you marry again and I am sure Katie wants you to do so, she will be smiling and cheering on your second wedding as she knows the joy it brought her.
Love married with cancer occasionally wore them down but never for long
The pills Katie had to take to stop the pain
These are the true faces of beauty
Both soon-to-be husband and wife were exhausted. He from looking after her and she after one of the many chemotherapy sessions
Katie looking gorgeous on graduation day
Trying on the bling like all brides do but look at her shoulder blades poking through her flesh.
Congratulations, Nick and Katie as husband and wife. The angels in God's heaven were waiting to welcome her 5 days later after the wedding
They swore to love each other until death did one part
Oxygen tank in tow did not stop the happy wedding. Nick's parents looked on proudly to see their son Nick marry the girl he fell in love with since an adolescent. Thumb's up from Nick's father on the glorious day
Katie laughing merrily seated in a wheelchair as her husband and friends sang to her
Every now and then Katie had to rest and take a breather on her wedding day
DON'T YOU THINK OUR PROBLEMS SEEM SO SMALL NOW?
