Giving Back is the New Black – Empowering Women in Western Australia
Perth Fashion Festival (PFF) 2012 is set to be a stunning celebration of fashion, style and elegance with 16 Accomplished and up-and-coming Western Australian designer labels showcasing their take on the classic black dress. Giving back is always in style and this year, Perth Fashion Festival is delighted to be working with Ready to Work, a charity that supports disadvantaged, disabled and long-term unemployed women to enter the workforce.
The VIP Closing Night event will be a unique and intimate evening, filled with stunning fashion and sumptuous canapés perfectly paired with premium wines. To be held in the beautiful Government House, the VIP Closing Night titled Giving Back is the New Black, will celebrate the local fashion industry’s most respected and most prominent designers, showcasing their interpretation of the black dress in a bespoke runway show.
Mrs Tonya McCusker said she was thrilled to be a part of this very special evening, “I am delighted that PFF has incorporated a charitable component into the Festival this year and am proud to see so many high profile Western Australian designers donating their time to support the Ready to Work charity (an organisation that assists disadvantaged women to enter the work place). The Government House Ballroom will provide a magnificent venue in which to showcase the outstanding work of talented WA designers and I congratulate Mariella and the PFF Board on this compassionate initiative.”
The designers taking part in Giving Back is the New Black include; Ruth Tarvydas, Wheels & Dollbaby, Poppy Lissiman, Zhivago, Fenella Peacock, Megan Salmon, Morrison, Story By Tang, One Fell Swoop, Ae’lkemi, Paper Skye, Little Gracie, Breathless, Ange Lang, Garth Cook and Ellery. Each of their beautiful designs will be exhibited for three weeks at the Claremont Quarter from Wednesday 26 September until Sunday 14 October.
The dresses will then be auctioned to raise money for the Ready to Work, a West Australian not for profit supporting women.
“We are so honoured to support Ready to Work with our innovative Giving Back is the New Black event and hope to make this an annual affair,” said Mariella Harvey-Hanrahan, Perth Fashion Festival Director. “Ready to Work was established to help disadvantaged, disabled and long-term unemployed WA women enter the workforce. We recognise the powerful language of fashion and are delighted to make a positive contribution to our community.
“The crème de la crème of Western Australian designers are creating amazing, show-stopping black dresses for this charity initiative. It is going to be absolutely spectacular. After the models have sashayed down the runway we will auction the exclusive black dresses and proceeds will be donated to Ready to Work. So watch this space as to when and how you can bid on these exclusive items.”
Perth Fashion Festival is supported by the State Government through Eventscorp, the Department of Culture and the Arts and the City of Perth.
