The official launch of the 12th MIGF (Malaysia International Gourmet Festival) was graced by Minister of Tourism Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen and its Patron of 12 years Tunku Laksamana Tunku Naquiyuddin Tuanku Jaafar of Negeri Sembilan.
The theme this year is Classical Chefs---A Symphony of Great Cuisines and classical music was played throughout the evening at Sunway Convention Centre. Around 2,000 guests roamed the food stalls from the various hotels, all lavishly decorated and individually embellished so it was not a hawkers' convention OK?
Thousands of ringgit were spent by each hotel or restaurant on their booths, filled with delicious, bite-sized nibbles exquisitely presented on platters and tables nicely decorated with vases, bowls, knicks knacks and flowers. Last year there were ladies drenched in water prancing around---a wee bit similar to the infamous Wet T-Shirts show but this being Malaysia, I could not see the nipples at all which was a letdown. This year was more sedate and classy based on 'Classical Chefs' theme and I only saw a desultory damsel standing forlornly on a circular pedestal.
However the sexy stars of the night were 2 long, lanky and ultra seductive Russian lasses representing Best Western hotels. They traipsed around offering trays of edibles and they looked even more palatable and I bet many men were eyeing them hungrily. Their names were Ludmila (same name as their Russian ambassador!) and Elenia which were Russian enough though I guessed their names might be Olga or Anastasia or Natasha. Ludmila had the curviest and sexiest ass I had seen all night and I asked if she was wearing padding since the buns were, well, so cheeky. She smiled graciously and denied to high heaven she was wearing any curve-enhancing underwear. I voted them to be the most delicious offerings ever. Remember, they are ambassadors for Best Western so make a beeline there right this instant.
From 1 to 31 October 2012, local diners and foreign tourists can feed their faces as 28 of Malaysia's finest restaurants serve Special Festival Menus at rather special prices.
Guest of Honour Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen, Royal Patron Tunku Naquiyuddin Tuanku Jaafar, Datuk Steve Day, Datin Su Wai Fun, Tunku Dara Tunku Naquiah and other VIPs were ushered into the Theatre of Cuisines aka main ballroom of Sunway Convention Centre under a cavalcade of chefs holding spoons and forks overhead.
Of course Thursday night was for invited guests only who came from the upper classes of society like me. However, peasants and plebeians from the lower classes need not riot.
Today, Friday 28 September 2012, everyone without a drop of blue blood coursing through their pathetic veins or a hefty bank account can still enjoy what I did last night.
The selfsame delights which I gorged recklessly with no regards to any avoirdupois can be enjoyed by the paying and baying public. All you need do is buy Taste Tokens at RM5 each in booklets of 10 at RM 50.
Tasting portiobs in Theatre of Cuisines at Sunway Convention Centre average between 1 to 3 Taste Tokens which is great value for highclass gourmet cuisine which you normally cannot afford so now is your chance! Dine like a king on a budget! You can pre-order online at www.tastemigf.com
There is also the Gourmet Village where you can stock up on fine food, cigar, wines and all sorts of cakes, biscuits and condiments.
The Malaysia International Gourmet Festival is now an integral part of the Ministry of Tourism's Fabulous Food 1Malaysia Initiative so we can look forward to bigger and better food fests to come.
Thanks to Dato' Steve Day and wifey Datin Su who is a Cordon Bleu chef by the way.
