Situated in a lovely colonial house in Lorong Gurney is the main
centre of the Alliance Française of Kuala Lumpur. It has recently undergone
renovation works to its premise which included repainting of its exterior and
interiors, building of new office spaces, new furniture, additional storage,
and some landscaping works. A recent flood in November has extended its
completion where further works on the multimedia library, hall and other office
space will resume next year.
With the newly renovated centre, AFKL looks to offer a better
environment for its students and members whilst adhering to new standards and new criteria defined by The Fondation Alliance
Française in Paris. Both staffs and visitors can expect a comfortable space for
hosting its cultural activities, workshops, briefings
and gatherings aimed at fostering exchanges between the French and Malaysian
communities.
Launching this inauguration ceremony is guest of honor, The
Honorable Thierry Mariani, Former Minister Member of the National Assembly of
France for the 11th Constituency for French Residents Overseas, accompanied by
Her Excellency Martine Dorance, Ambassador of France in Malaysia, & Her
Royal Highness Tengku Zatashah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, President of the

a modern, dynamic high-quality French language learning centre and a place to
showcase the best of French culture. With his aid and assistance, a generous grant
from the French National Assembly was awarded, and then to which Alliance Française doubled the funds towards the renovation project.
‘As the pioneer in teaching French and
organizing French cultural activities in Kuala Lumpur, it is our goal in
Alliance Française to
continue to drive this interest and bring ever-more exciting events to the
local community. But in order to achieve this, we needed a centre that would
reflect our fresh, dynamic spirit.’ said Tengku Zatashah, President of the Alliance Française of Kuala Lumpur during her
