THE 22nd NEW ZEALAND ANNUAL DINNER AND DANCE 2014 HELD AT SHANGRI-LA GRAND BALLROOM ON SATURDAY 4 OCTOBER WAS A MAGNIFICENT BALL WITH OVER 600 GUESTS.
The record was around 800 last year but due to the long Hari Raya Aidil Adha holiday, it was slightly less this year.
Richard Tankersley who has been chairman of Malaysia New Zealand Chamber of Commerce for as long as anyone can remember, recalled, "When the first New Zealand Annual Dinner and Dance was held in 2002, there were only 256 guests. Last year around 800 came to join this annual affair which has grown to become the biggest of its kind, not only in Malaysia but internationally!
"Many have heard of New Zealand Annual Dinner and Dance in Kuala Lumpur in New Zealand and Australia. We have become so established and well known that performers contact us to ask if they could be part of the programme! This is very flattering and we are so honoured. This year we have 2 top personalities tonight---Frankie Stevens and Shane Cortese and the Class of 58.
"I am also very pleased and proud to announce we have just formed the Malaysia New Zealand Foundation which helps students study in each other's countries and thus strengthen our already close ties."
Richard Tankersley also thanked his right hand woman Doris Ng who has worked with him for a record 27 years and has still not married him, fancy that!
The Patron of New Zealand Annual Dinner and Dance 2014 was His Excellency Mr David Pine the New Zealand High Commissioner to Malaysia.
